Not to mention that with a TH400 you don’t have to haul that heavy *** 4L80 down track.
TH400 is much cheaper as well. Especially the torque converter.

I agree with this but to build a TH400 for 1,200whp was literally half the cost of building a 4L80E so I built a TH400.
My car with a 28" tire and 3.50 gears turns about 2,400-2,500 rpm at 60 mph and is actually quite pleasant to drive to my surprise.

Well the beater Buick is coming together. I have to finish up the wiring and fuel system and a few loose ends (about 20). And it’s getting there .

we will see how it runs . Going to be on about 11 psi boost on e85 to start and work out the kinks then add a second fuel pump and crank it up from there.

hope to start it this weekend.

Great project! Do you have any pictures of how the manifold cleaned up after you knocked off the flash? How is the plug access?

Plug’s are tight but not bad . On the inside cleanup I just opened up the first inch or so where it was reduced to much then used some 6” long burrs to reach in and smooth the inner ends of the ports . They were very ruff with lots of casting flash .

not a real quality manifold but I think it will work as well as my 78/75 .

Great project! I've always loved these cars, no matter what was in them. I remember the Ford VS Buick shootouts we always had back then. I was in the F camp then, as I couldn't afford those then......
well, or now.🤣.

What did you end up doing for an exhaust?
I see the down pipe and the tailpipe at the back, dual exit on the exhaust with a cutout?

right now is is a full 3” mandrel exaust with a flow master FX. Muffler . No cutout yet .

it has a 4.30 gear so my next thing is to get my 3.50 gear installed and then just get the tune dialed in with a single fuel pump and enjoy it until
the weather gets bad .

a second fuel pump and a cutout will be my winter items.

Very nice, I'm in the same boat as you here in Washington.
The days are getting shorter, and the summer is almost over so I just want to put some miles on the car and enjoy it with my son before the rain moves in for the next 8 months.

I wish it was just rain here . We are usually good September and October but after that the temperatures get pretty cold
