Default Over boosting 14lbs on 7lb spring.

On the dyno my car at 4,000 rpm is making 14 lbs. the spring in it is 7-7.5. It has no boost controller just spring. This is a completely new kit. It is a Huron v3 t-4 kit, so you think placement wouldn’t be an issue. I did cheap out and get cheapest XS power gate. It is referenced off the turbo as it had a spot for a barb. That line is ran into the side of the gate and the top is vented to the atmosphere. All new parts and hoses. It’s a Huron v3 kit T-4 78/75 gen 2 .96 turbo. It has to be the waste gate doesn’t it? I think I just need to quit being a cheap *** and buy a quality one. What else could it really be? It’s instant 14 pounds and keep climbing we shut it down at 4K. the shop is telling me to get a bigger waste gate, but I would think a 44MM would be fine runinng 7-10 lbs. I am thinking a Tial 44 or precision 45 or something of the sort. Should I change the BOV too?

Your WG size and brand is fine. Have you verified the vacuum line is physically connected to the intake port, I.e. that the location has vacuum and boost? Have you tested the wastegate on a bench with a compressor? You may not have the right spring in it.

It is connected to the turbo housing to the gate. I don't have air at the house all my tools are electric maybe i can use an electric pump or something?

You should move the vacuum source to the intake manifold. An electric pump should be fine.

I did open the gate and put a different spring in. Its hard to hold it shut and start the small bolts around the outside, it was in a vice holding it shut with a black of wood. Maybe I pinched the diaphragm inside of it. I imagine if I did then I need to replace the gate. i imagine to test it i order a cheap regulator gauge set up on amazon, put the hose on one end and the hose out to the reference spot on the gate. Turn the **** till I get the pressure it should open the gate on the regulator. If it is not opening, then i keep turning it until it does to see what psi will open the gate, and if it doesn't I have a gate issue.

Yep they can be a pain when swapping...or especially adding spring pressure.

Definitely bench test the gate , whatever pressure is required to just make it float ( easily moved with fingers) is what it should deliver. Variables are back pressure ( will, open early) , and placement for priority flow -- will have higher boost with poor placement. Plenty of guys using 44mm gates with 7875 s , IIRC REL3RD has a Huron kit and had to add a gate , moved 1 and added a second both in good priority locations ( outside of a bend ) got any pics of the gate location?

The key area is where the waste gate pipe joins the main " up " pipes just bellow the t4 flange , doesn't look too bad in that picture. Don't worry about that until you confirm waste gate operation. If you can make up a regulator set up it shouldn't be to hard to borrow some compressed air

I bought a regulator at harbor freight with a gauge and hose ends. I’m going to take it or work compresses air on one side and other hose to the reference line on gate. Start turning **** til I can easily move it. I believe this is the correct way.

Just brought the car home. I will let you know what it reads on the gauge. I say its on the psi when I can easily move it with my fingers in on the gate, correct?

It never really cracked open. Maybe I couldn't get it down that low our psi in the shop this morning was 120 on the air hose. I got it down to about 7 or so and it opened the gate. Is this fully opened? It will not open more than this even if i turned it up to around 15 lbs. I did try to push it in more as soon as it started moving and it seems there is still about a inch of shaft that doesn't go in.

Its the lightest one I had. It only came with two springs a 7 and a 14 I believe. I it has a seven in it. I had it all way up to 15-20 psi into it and it didn't open any more than this. We did take it apart and put this lighter spring in it, maybe it's pinched or something. Should it be all the way open?

Yeah somethings not right in there. Maybe a messed up diaphragm or a messed up spring or vent valve but that's not fully open.

Better get it apart and check that diaphragm, while it's apart check that the "stem" is not binding in "guide" smooth and polish as required. I use the same sort of regulator but tee in a low pressure (0-50 psi I think ) to the gate to improve accuracy

I will take it apart and check it out. This is a cheap Chinese gate. If the gate is bad, I will just order a better one like Turbo Smart or Tial even though the VS has good reviews and is half as much.
