Huron Speed turbo oiling

Default Huron Speed turbo oiling

I'm fixing to do an install of a Huron Speed 78/75 billet single on my '02 SS with a 408" and was wondering if its ever been tried by anyone or even feasible to do the oiling supply from a oil cooler adaptor to the turbo, on to an automatic style radiator for cooling then returned to the inner port of the cooler adaptor at the filter. Or is that just crazytalk?

You can feed the turbo with oil from the oil cooler, but the turbo drain must go to a low pressure area(oil sump). Like the oil pan, or valve cover.
You could run the oil feed to the turbo thru the oil cooler if you wanted to cool the turbo better, but the drain from the turbo must go directly to the sump, with no sharp bends or horizontal runs.

wlink, thank you for your reply, I was considering, as you suggested, running the oil supply thru the tranny cooler in the radiator so as to supply cooled oil to the turbo but I wasnt sure if I could forgo poking a hole into my sump and running the oil back into the inlet side of the cooler adaptor. As you state, that's a NO! So, in the event I went with this setup, I'd be putting a plug in the inlet & popping a hole into the sump. Now Im wondering if this would be adversely affecting my oil pressures.

I ran a 7875 with an oil cooler on my 02 Camaro SS, it worked very well and stabilized my oil pressure when running the car hard.
The adapter for the cooler has a port you can use for the turbo oil feed, then the cooler is on its own circuit.
It won't affect your oil pressure at all, the amount going through the turbo is so small it won't matter, and the cooler will actually improve pressure by keep the oil cooler and thicker.
Not sure what you plan on doing with the car but that 7875 is likely gonna be too small on that big 408 if you start to lean on it.

Balz, when you had the oil cooler setup, and you referred to the cooler being on its own circuit, were you feeding the returning oil back into the inlet port or back to the sump? As for the 7875 being too small, I'm only looking for 10 lbs of boost at this time.

There was an adapter used that ties into the factory circuit on the pan right above the filter, there are two 1/8 npt ports you can't see, one for the turbo and the other I used for a temp sensor to activate the fan for the cooler.
If you pop that plate off above the filter that everyone drills and taps to feed the turbo, you'll see the two holes for the oil circuit, the cooler simply ties into those, so it doesn't alter the path of the oil at all.
The oil gets pulled from the pan, goes through the pump, through the filter, through the cooler and into the engine.
So to answer your question, the oil returns back to the inlet and not back to the pan otherwise you'd lose all your pressure.
This kit is very similar to the one I used off Amazon, the cooler was bigger on mine though.

How did you set it up to use both a cooler and feed the turbo? Did you have to run a Y?

Nope, on the adapter there are two 1/8 npt threaded ports.
You can't see them in the pic but they are there.
You could feed the turbo, install a temp switch for the fan or add an oil pressure sensor and log oil pressure.

Anytime my friend, iirc Derale makes an adapter that has a temp sensor built into it as well if you want to run a dedicated fan, Improved Racing has one too.
