What amp relay would y'all run with a 6th gen single fan or what's reccomended these days?

I'm running a single Ford fan with a TE 75 amp relay. I just have the high speed wired, I'd like to move to a PWM variable speed fan.

if it’s a true brushless PWM fan then no relay. One less thing to fail. The controller is the relay. I don’t believe the 6th gen are brushless right? That’s tough but whatever the max current is I would double it. For the price of a 120-200amp relay on Amazon idk why anyone would use anything less. If your building it for max amps the use the appropriate wire as well. I put a 120amp relay on my walbro 450lph in tank pump. The +20amps on switch spike creates an arc which burns out the contacts over time in standard 30-40amp relays. The big 120-200amp guys use much bigger contacts.

just be careful those 30-40 amp style relays are usually rated at a lower number for the normal closed setting. So a 30/40 amp style relay is 40 amp rated at normally open (not activated) activate the relay to close it and the rating drops to 30amp. Even then at 20-24amps your more than 50% of the rated load and I would expect a lower life rating due to arcing on the contacts on activation. I’ve seen some fancy relays on Amazon $30 or so for a 75 amp with tungsten contacts and dual contacts to reduce the arcing during activation. I would swap those smaller relays out to something with some meat in them. I have used the 120-200 amp relays off Amazon with good success and the contacts are much bigger than the smaller standard relays. They are like $15 for two and have big 6mm/ 1/4” brass or copper studs. I’ve even opened them up to take a peak and there is a lot of copper in them. Your wire is up to the task if you did 8gauge so don’t get stranded bc of the relay. I try to double the capacity for a working load, so 30amps is 60amp minimum but for the price stick a 120amp on it and call it a day keep a spare in the trunk or glove box for a rainy day.

thx. The fans are soft start so the built in controller will power up (low power draw at first) then it slowly ramps in. The factory relays are now only being used for signal. And I do keep spares in the car just in case. I picked a spare pair of factory relays up yesterday.

So I've been running this for a couple months. I'm a huge fan of variable speed fans. Soft start is killer etc. But Terminator X using a SSR to flip polarity for the PWM.

Nice! This would obviously work with a Dominator or HP ECU, since they can output a PWM+ signal.

Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. Finally made my pro-form fan video. PROFORM even commented on it, that was pretty cool.

Glad its working, you blowing the leaves off is hilarious lol.
My turbo car reacts the same way regarding heating up after a hit.
My ECT will go up 10-15 degrees after a pull but then immediately come back down after lifting so I wouldn't focus on that too hard.
I'd look at installing some perforated sheet metal panels like the ones below, easy to bend up and mount with some sheet metal screws.
Can you add a polarity switch or something that can reverse the direction of the fans to blow all the leaves out?
