Default Maintenance any different than NA

Hello all,

I just recently picked up a 00 trans am with a d1sc and just wondering whats different when it comes to maintenance. I have seen they use different spark plugs, id assume to still run 5w-30, i ordered some procharger oil and plan on changing that out. Anything else to look for? I'm replacing the brakes, fluid, and lines. It over heats with AC on so already been reading to upgrade radiator and change my fan set up, might need power steering pump, and a never ending list of others. Any other input what you would check on a 24 year old fbody na or fi.

Yeah, more power = more heat so a good cooling setup is a great idea. You will find the weakest links too, rear end, transmission. But I hope Procharger overall is pretty easy maintenance. Hopefully others will chime in.

I've already known about swapping to the lt1 style radiator so that's on the list and upgrading either the singular fan ir adding a second. Thankfully this one is a t56 because i already had to build the 4l60e in the one i just lost.

I would change the oil more often for sure, it breaks down.

On the engine, procharger, or both? It's only driven on the streets and nothing crazy. I would be interested in a track but also pretty sure they closed the only one in the area

I'd change the blower oil once a year, cheap insurance.

My buddy drag races his '69 turbo ls Camaro a lot during the year, changes oil probably 3 times during the season.

Not apples to apples but I change the oil in my turbo car annually sometime twice a year because I beat on it which is one of the reasons I use Delo 15-40.
It might be a good idea to up the weight a little bit as well.
More power means more heat which taxes the oil more.

. YES. VERY important to use Colder than stock spark plugs. TR6 works okay for low boost in Alaska.
BR7EF probably a better choice if you are hitting it harder than 12 PSI, or running IAT over 110 degrees F.

Make sure the crank case pressure isn’t excessive. if it is it’ll eventually start blowing out seals and gasekts. That’s the boat that I’m currently in with a non GM product.
Maybe look into deleting PCV if it still has it.

An occasional look at the plugs and a data log might help head off an issue.

Mighty Mouse makes a great PCV catch can that works very well if the OP wants to retain PCV function.

everyone above is right, br7ef gapped right, better cooling ( i ran a 180 thermostat as well) , catch can ( i liked mine vented, cause i blew out some seals too) i always changed out the procharger oil every other oil change about 6k mi plus its pretty cheap. couple things that are nice to have, a drain line on the unit to make changing the headunit oil easy, a boost gauge, change the bov to the big red one ( it sounds bad *** and leaks less than the stock black valve plus can be rebuilt with a parts kit) i dont know what rear is in your car but start saving for a s-60 if its stock. also keep an extra belt in the car just in case, make sure the idler is in good shape cause belt slip sucks. and my personal favorite couple smaller pulleys to play with when you just need more down the road. sounds like a fun project happy wrenching sir.

I appreciate you all so much. I'll be starting some maintenance the next couple weekends and have a good list now of where to start. I thought I needed brakes but have since learned the car was in a accident so it might be that instead. Hoping to get a good look over soon.
