Default First startup/tuning fuel type

This may make no difference, but thought I’d ask. Should I do the first startup on straight gasoline or on E50-E85? 5.3, VS480, Bosch 210’s and twin AEM 400’s. All controlled via a Gold Box. And car is inside a heated garage. So no worries about engine temperature.

The worst case scenario pessimist in me says use 93, just because gasoline flames show up better than alcohol flames.

lmao, I appreciate the kind thoughts!
No worries, they’ll be lots of testing before firing it up. I’m a little over the top that way.

I don't like mixing E85 and gas, so I do my startups on the fuel I intend to be using. Also, gas stinks, I'd rather play with E85 any day.

Yes, the car is flex fuel. Given ethanol availability, or the lack there of, it makes the most sense. In my local area I can get fuel from E0 to E85. So I can easily start out on either.

Start out on pump gas.

All of your flex fuel tables are based off of that.

It's diffucult to start out on E85 and reverse engineer a pump gas tune.

I took the easy way out. I grabbed the hand held input added pump fuel turned the key. I didnt want other factors influencing the first start, I went as far as removing intake tube, and ran NA setup.

Washing out the ring lands with overly rich E mixtures is the only "danger". Just don't run it crazy rich and you'd be fine. . MS3 has a pre determined table for the ethanol percentages. So starting with E85 and going to gas is not different than starting with gas and going to E85. Nothing is "learned". Its a simple formula that can be manually altered. Worked really well on my setups, but usually requires tweaking. They you'll be pulling your hair out wondering if it's the WB02 or the formula that is slightly "off".

I always assume it is the ethanol content sensor that is slightly "off", since water content can throw them off a bit.

I’m a little nervous about the overly rich problem. Bad experience with a blower motor and a bad fuel pressure regulator. Plan is ethanol free fuel for the first startup. A little more wiring and then try my hand at the Gold Box tuning. If anyone has a “safe” base tune for the cold idle/low rpm stuff, hook a brother up!
