Years ago I made the mistake of icing my cooling water on an HPA compressor to keep the air from heating up any more than it had to while being compressed. It turns out keeping the compressor head that cool keeps the oil cold, and I had a piston seize in the compressor head and explode the pump. So yeah, 4500psi compressors can be finicky. My buddy once had an auto shutoff fail, and the tank popped a burst disc at somewhere between 5000 and 6000psi.

I posted about testing the exact same setup about 10 years ago. Its been around for years, it works, its just not that practical.

I think they have come up with a kit that finally is practical. Though not the cheapest thing to get into initially. 4.2x @ 196 is scoot'n. Guess that's the new CAS record from this weekend.

If you watch the interview with the 3 "inventors" of the product they go over everything it took to make the kit over 15 years. Was pretty interesting. The regulators they had to have made special for the application.

There is no cheap way to go 196 mph in the 1/8th. That would win 99 percent of small tire no prep events. Larson was rolling.

There was a local small tire event this passed weekend I watched. The winner went 4.4x at over 180 mph.

Thought he was on the big slick with that 4.2X pass, but I agree that’s pretty damn good! Think he said he was on the BBC there as well not the 427 LS.

I like in the video above they talk about the wifes truck they put a basic kit on. SBE LS deal on 9lbs and went 8.5’s at like 158 or something. Took me 22-23lbs to hit that mph!

Yes he was using the big block but it was a 28 x 10.5 small tire race all the bears were out with a 75g payout to the winner. Kye Kelley, Ryan Martin, Larry Larson, etc all on small tires. He said he was faster on the front half with the LS I’d imagine due to being lighter.

Chiming in to give huge props to KCmaxx for going rounds at KOTS!!! Insane that he's running 4.2x @ ALMOST 200mph within a foreign setup that he's had on the car for like 3 months tops. The guy is extremely smart and I admire anyone who has the sack to tear apart proven combinations (DOMINANT combinations!!) over and over just to try something new. Ive been nerding out hard watching this CAS journey, its the most interesting thing in drag racing rn imo.

Guys like this are at the forefront of moving the sport forward imo. Super impressive it takes a $100k proline hemi to beat him at these no prep races!

Yeah its still appears to be same the parts when I tested it. Karl in the video is one of the guys who flew to TX and brought all the stuff when we tested it. They were working on a computer system for it but we ran it all on holley when we tested it. I think they scrapped there own computer system. They system did everything they claimed it would. Still 10 years later they have the same problem with filling the tanks and having to bring a compressor everywhere.

At this point I root for anyone not running a fox body lol. There really are no low budget guys in heads up small tire anymore.

Pretty much all business owners now not may blue collar hourly paid dudes competing at this level.

Here is the winner from small tire at my local track last weekend. Car counts are down locally for heads up racing due to costs.

It says track record but that must be with small tires because nitro cars were running 3.7x at over 200 at the same event and Scott Palmer set the track record a few years ago way below that with his top fuel car.

Heads up is always a rich mans game. Just racing cubic dollars at that point. Until you have a few competitors with endless budgets. Then the best racer of those few wins. Either way, if ya don’t have enough $ to run the best of the best equipment to start with, you might as well not bother. The grass roots style events and "list races" are pretty fun. Really hope those catch on more.

Index/bracket and TNT racing is where the tracks bread and butter is. They seem to of all forgotten that. Our track won’t even open the doors unless they think they can turn a healthy profit. But when you are only open 1-2 weekends a month, they don’t make any money either.

I’m fortunate rhe track 10 minutes from my house is doing very well. Keep in mind our town has a population of about 12,000 so it’s a small town low budget track. They run heads up classes, street car classes, bracket racing, and test and tune every week.

This is a snip from a video I made last weekend place was packed.

My wife and I at the track met farm truck and AZn.

Our state also passed a law to protect race tracks as well.

Yea that’s awesome. We have no excuse really. 396k people in Wichita KS and the track can’t fill the seats. Won’t open unless they know they can make a few thousand profit either. Had maybe 12 cars show up to the last test and tune, maybe 30 spectators. It was sad. Keep having issues with critters chewing up the wiring as well. Timing system was down. It’s a mess! Lol

I was kind of ho-hum on the CAS idea until I saw it work.
1320 Video did a show on this setup that was very enlightening. It had the 427LS at the time.
Now it has a BBC.
Watched the King of the South race. As was mentioned, 4.20’s at 195. Holy crap on 10.5x28’s.

They also have to use additional tanks, which is added weight compared to running nitrous.
I also don’t.

As an example of the money he’s up against…

One guy at that event windowed a billet block noonan built hemi and pulled out another brand new engine to swap over night.

also he trapped about 196 and yet Larson walked away from him on the big end so he likely trapped over 200 mph.

Yeah a lot of the guys he's running against are running billet blocks. He does a lot with a little.

I believe in the most recent video he said he trapped higher than he ever had with the Procharger, over 196.
