Is it normal for a shop to have a release of liability?

We’ve been in business for over 20 years and, early on, used waivers as part of our standard process. However, over time—and after consulting with multiple attorneys and insurance providers—we’ve consistently been advised that waivers offer little actual protection. They do not prevent someone from filing a lawsuit or taking legal action, regardless of what the waiver states.

In our experience, having dyno-tested thousands of vehicles without the use of waivers, the consensus from legal professionals has been that participation in such services is considered an implied risk. As such, a waiver is not legally required and, in practice, has limited value.

Social media has warped folks minds into thinking 1000whp is so easy and reliable. Just shop around and find the cheapest parts available, then take it to the local corner shop. No big deal, simple as a routine oil change.
People have been doing that since the 1950's if not earlier. We wouldn't have the performance aftermarket if those guys didn't tinker and fab up parts. It's all part of the performance game.

I ended up pulling the car over not just this but some other issues too. Shops: dont take your clients for granted and respect them.
