Default Oil change interval for Daily-Drivers in Boost.

( Yep, another flippin' oil thread.........)

Oil is cheap.
I like clean oil.
Can always pour Low mile drain oil in the plow trucks, fork-lift, or pour it on old used tires and BURN 'em in the yard on Earth Day.
.
I just can't seem to allow oil to go 5000 miles, just HAVE to drain it after a few months, seems I ALWAYS find some reason to throw a new filter, and fresh oil in. Never seen it "get dirty".
Anybody actually run oil for a full 5000 miles on Boosted daily drivers?

Definitely dont let my oil go 5000 miles in my turbo truck, it just installed my new motor so it still has the break in oil but at most I might put 25 miles on the break in oil and then I might keep the second oil 2 months and then ill change again. I take my truck to the track though and I dont like repeat WOT pulls on the same oil.

I drive mine daily ( 6 months of the year ) usually running 5000 miles per change on mobil 1 , trying amsoil 5W40 now. When we do power tour that's usually 3500 miles in a week. Was using a longer than stock wix filter and now trying the amsoil filter - same size . I've put 33000 miles on the 180k mile sbe with no issues. What I drain out of the catch can I don't put back in , top up with fresh if needed.

I change my motor oil in all my vehicles after 2000miles. Always.

My philosophy I tell my Mechanics students:
"Changing oil is like changing underpants; there is nothing to be gained by extending the service interval."

Louisiana dweller here, current turbo owner. Its hot here, yea... but mine stays cool enough. I am about to put a vent in the hood though. Mine usually runs 195f to a max of 205F on a 90+ degree day in traffic.

Oil change....hmmm... I don't keep track of it....honestly I let it go so long that one day I'll think, "hmmm, its been quite a while since I've changed my oil....maybe I should consider it sometime this year... or next". I go AT LEAST 6 months and an unknown mileage between oil changes. I do check the level from time to time though. It's usually good.

btw, matter of fact, the oil life indicator in my truck is at 5%. Sometimes I just reset it and change it when I can. As long as it has oil in it, its fine. Oil is not a magic engine fix. Funny how an engine will develop a noise and people are quick to change the oil, like thats gonna fix it. It ain't, the damage is already done.

on my daily ill let the oil indicator get to where its fairly low but not on my turbo ride, of course it doesn't have an oil indicator but there is also a big difference in my daily. I never do wot pulls in my daily and I drive like a grandma. I drive my turbo truck the same way if I drive it on the street but if I take it the track 2 or 3 times ill change the oil. State capital is almost an hour from my house too though and I dont trailer my truck to the track. My temps are similar too yours. Ive tried to keep them lower but its hard it this heat. I was actually thinking about putting louvers on my truck hood, I dont know anyone who personally has them but I assume them help with letting the heat out.

I've been running Delo 15w-40 in all my turbo cars for years, it's cheap and pressure wise it bounces back from turbo heat quickly.
I change my oil at the end of every summer no matter what because I don't want acidic oil sitting in my engine for six months or more.
If I'm beating on the car a lot or doing events, I'll change it once during the summer too.
I'm sure its way overkill but $50 for an oil change is dirt cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned.

Ditch the hood my friend, my temps are almost too cold now.
Or add some spacers to the rear hinge bolts and maybe pull the seal so the air can escape.
I love having no hood because all the looks the car gets, my son loves it too which makes it even better.

I've run VR1, Royal Purple, and Ams Oil and they would all take hits to my pressure and never really recover after a beating.
The delo/rotella is the only oil that I've used that will come back after you let it cool off a bit and its half the price in most cases.
Guys always talk about how it's a diesel oil and it will foam and lose pressure, but my oil pressure logs say different, and the inside of my engine is spotless, so I use it.

I was thinking of just putting the louvers but spacers might not be a bad idea to add with it, i dont know that id be comfortable running around with no hood. I might park my truck somewhere and come back to missing parts, again remember i live in Louisiana lol, and i use rotella 15w40.

I ran RP in one combo yrs ago - never again! 500 miles in it lost viscosity and oil pressure , oil change fixed that . Have run rotella in many different engines with great results and still run it most flat tappet applications, went synthetic to try and extend the drain interval , mainly because I do some long trips and not looking take it into a shop or do a hotel parking lot change.

I've been doing it for a bit now and I live in Tacoma, WA which is littered with homeless people and no cops, so I get the worry.
Nobody has messed with it so far, I just plan out my trips which I did anyways.
Something like this would on your hood would look dope.
I was thinking of getting a base Camaro hood and doing these since they wouldn't work with the factory SS hood.

I’m an odd ball I despise having no hood or holes cut in a hood with exhaust or intakes sticking out on a daily driver especially.

I prefer the sleeper look, full exhaust with mufflers, and going unnoticed.

Our family has 5 vehicles. I change oil in them all twice a year except the GTO I change 4 times a year. Always have way less miles on them then needed when I charge them.

I use driven hot rod conventional in the GTO and valvoline synthetic in the rest. 10w40 in the GTO cold pressure is 60 and hot is 40.

I change the Procharger oil twice a year.

I’m wrong for changing it so often as I’m sure it’s not needed but I’m not hurting anything by doing it.

Thats exactly the style i was looking at, they actually make one for my year model truck but really i bet any of them would fit. Why wouldnt it work on your factory hood?

Changing your oil that often would be equivalent to changing your underpants 3 to 5 times a day for no reason. Except for oil is more expensive, takes more time to change, and is environmentally problematic to dispose of. Unless you are running pre 1990's Quaker State, no oil is bad enough to need changing that frequently.
