Default question for the big HP guys...

2 actually

1. What headgaskets should I go with running a 99 head. Ive read some issues on what gasket to use on different years?

2. What piston rings to run? Gapping info would be nice as well.

I have big goals for this engine

LOL, ok, at least 800 rwhp if thats all the heads will go before they lift. I intend on running the same bottom end later on with different heads for more power hopufully.

Well

I'm running GM 6.0L gaskets w/ run of the mill ARP head studs. No o-rings, and no lifting we've noticed to far.

For rings, I'm using Total Seal standard gap'd rings. I've got a wierd ring pack size so I'm limited on what's available versus having them made. I'm stuck with their standard classic race series of rings for now.

I'm currently running .0065 * bore on top, .0055 * bore on 2nd ring. It's a litte more blow by at idle than most want, but it seals up well under power and my dry sump takes care of evacuating the crank case at speed.

FWIW, i'm just about 900RWHP based on what it's run and what it weighs. No dyno numbers, it spins the tires past 18 psi

Any opinions on the Diamond rings they offer? Im deffinately using a set of their pistons.

Harlan are you using 6L heads too? Or do the 6L head gaskets work on a "stock" 5.7L head?

I am running a Speed Inc. Sportsman shortblock. I am running Diamond -8.6cc FI pistons with whatever rings they use. Car runs pretty clean and we are very impressed with how clean the car runs down the track. I am running 6.0 heads and 6.0 GM MLS headgaskets with the fancier H11 head studs. I have seen 17 psi on the dyno and 15 psi or so at the track.

Never used the rings from Diamond, so can't comment.

yes, 6.0L heads. Using the 6.0 gaskets due to the chamber diameter of the head. They would work w/ a 5.7L head, would just move the gakest bore out more than normal. Some have commented on that being a good thing anyway.

I blew a whole out of the notch and took a chunk of the block with it on my 98 heads....... 6.0L now and ARP normal head studs. I hope to make 700 with my new FMIC and pullying up.

the gms are cheaper and just as good, so if you dont need a specific thickness get the GMs
