I think cartek made a 1000+ hp turbo engine out of the stock 346 block.

I'm running a stock block (0.010 over for the piston's with stock sleeves), stock crank, Crower billet rods (6.125), and JE pistons I spec'd for my setup.

While I haven't had it on the dyno at race boost (it was just spinning the drag radials on the rolls) I can make a pretty good guess on power.

3300 race weight, 159 MPH is just about 900 to the tire. Through a 9" and glide it's over 1000 at the motor. That's about right from what I'm seeing on fuel consumption.

It's possible, good luck

WAYYYY off topic but hey matt i can see under your car it looks like you need an oil change LMAO, as for this post right now it looks like there is no need for anything bigger than a 348 most of the big number guys are still in stock block form.

LOL, after that little wheelie it need a couple other things too

I look at it this way, your gonna break something eventually at this power level. And a stock block and crank are WAY cheaper than a $1800 crank and a $2000 resleaved block. I presonally haven't broken one yet, and I haven't seen anyone break one from excessive power yet.

Just trying to find the limits

Matt,
Another off topic post.
We pulled an old camaro out of mothballs recently. It has a big block chevy with a single N2O kit. Put it on the rolls and made 806hp at the wheels. Took it to the track at 3280 race weight last night. Went 8.5x- 8.6x at 159.9 to 161.5.

Also dyno'd a stock aluminum block with 4 inch crank for Mike and Steve awhile back. It made 1150 at the flywheel, but ended up hurting the thrust bearing in the car.

Sounds about right, you got me by about 100 lbs (3330 when it went 158) and I know you got me on the 60'

dyno numbers are good for tuning, but i think it was actually you that said you can't race a dyno That's why I haven't bothered to put it back on the rolls

On my engine dyno's we put them in rooms side by side and the high HP dyno still cant pass the low hp dyno!!!

It would be cool if we could come up with a matrix of et's with hp for the chassis roll. I also made a motor pass at Milan at 10.31@135 and on the chassis roll at 10.32@133. I could not use the trans brake on the dyno though, it spun even on slicks.

I cracked my aluminum block with just the power of the starter and a little water Aluminum block will take you to an insane amount of power. It's funny how we are all keeping the heads down now.....just shows you how much better tuning has gotten.
