Default Wastegate Choice

I plan on running a single turbo on a stock cube LS1 at 7-9 psi. What size wastegate would be appropriate for this setup? I really have no idea so any input would be appreciated!

If nothing else, you guys with turbo systems, please post up what wastegate you are running.

i will be using a turbonetics racegate but with 7-9psi you should be ok with something like turbonetics deltagate which is pretty inexpensive

I've been warned against the deltagate so I wont be using it. Would the 38mm create too much backpressure? I'm running a T-70 @ 7-9 psi.

eh??? I think I need to add this to the turbo FAQ. Remember turbo folks, the more boost you bleed down the LARGER the gate has to be, not smaller. If you were running a GT40 at 30psi on an LS1 you could darn near run it with zero wastegate...hehe. If you run that same GT40 at 3 psi, you will need a BIG gate to bleed all the excess exhaust gas. Gate mm is a function of bleed off volume.

Thanks Jose, that's what I thought too. I already corresponded with you about this a few days ago and you told me the 38mm would be fine for my needs. Do I still have your assurance on that? Remember, I am running a T-70 at 7-9 psi, shifting at 6000 on a stock cube LS1. I have a couple friends who don't know LS1's but are skeptical at the 38mm being big enough for me.

Not doubting your knowledge but it is tough being pulled in two directions on this.

We are using a 38mm Tial on the 03-04 cobra kit which uses a 76GTS which is even larger then the 70. It holds boost at 8psi rock solid on the dyno everytime. The tial 38 mm is an excellent unit. Its the best bang for the buck when it comes to WG's, even though you can't run to much race fuel through it, thats the only real drawback.

I haven't finished my turbo kit yet, but I bought a T67 that will be running @ 7 to 9 psi. For the wastgate I choose (with help of a knowlegable friend) a 38mm Tail wastwegate. The Tial unit is nice looking quality piece.

Speed Inc can get you a nice 42mm unit. Call Tom. Between 3 and 4 bills.
