Default Damn what a night.

Guess i cant have any luck at all. Went to go do a lil raceing in Evansville, In and didnt even get to make it there. My car has a 3 core afco radiator with the stock ATI fan. Even with this stuff my car went 284 degrees tonite. I was like oh ****. The temp just skyrocked all the sudden. It has no shroud and a lil sheetmetal airdam i made to try to get some air in it. Do you guys think Stock fans will help out alot. Or maybe try to move my FMIC forward a lil more so i can get some airspace between. It sucks that i cant even drive the car 2 miles without overheating. Then to top it all off after i got it back inside the trailer and came home then unloaded, I went for down the road and it blew the blower belt off. I tried to move the tensioner pulley but it acts like it is locked up. It wont move. Is there a place i can get another if it is broke? Id like to get it back toghter cause i got a 3.9 blower pulley to replace the 4.75 pulley on it now. Lookin to see major psi this time. It only makes 11psi now. It did go 10.63 at 127.8 on a 1.61 60'. It went 6.82 at 103.8 in the 1/8. It needs new tires plugs and wire then retuned with the small pulley. And ill be back at the track hopeing for some single digits. Justin

Pictures would really help a lot in trying to diagnose the problem. I think you should concentrate on ducting. A shroud is key... it doesn't have to be fancy, but without a shroud, fans really won't work. I personally disagree with the masses about FMIC's blocking radiator flow. Air has to flow through the FMIC for the intercooler to work.... if putting a heat exchanger really dramatically hurt the airflow, then why would the factory put the condensor right in front of the radiator? Forcing air between the FMIC and the radiator would be a bad thing... you would then have a high pressure area behind the FMIC and you won't get airflow through it. The key is to have a systematic approach to making sure the air keeps flowing through all of your heat exchangers. This means you have to make sure that you have high pressure in front of them, and low pressure behind them. You also have to minimize how much air escapes around them. On a friends third gen we went as far as to convert to a front breather, build a duct up to the intercooler, and then sealed off the gap between them (it was an FMIC that we located directly in front of the radiator). IMHO the first place you need to look is at the shroud. I have lots of friends who tried to make their setups work without shrouds because of the perceieved difficulty in making one... It almost never works.

The shroud is no problem i have one for it. Guess i need to put it on there. I just thought the fan dont have enough in it to move the air.

Bos ur right I took the blower and idler pulley off the car and sure enough it looks like its has been torched. It was all blued and discolored the bearings are flat and just plain out shot. Im gonna try to get the bearings local and have a new pulley machined up. Hopefully it will get it all fixed up.

U-Luze - If it is the stock ATI tensioner pulley I have one that I'll sell ya. I also have the steel pulley version if you wanted that. Just PM me for details and pics.

Without a shroud, the fan only pulls some air through the core from directly in front of the fan rather than pulling air from throughout the entire core. Also, air from behind the radiator tends to keep recirculating by being pulled in between the back of the radiator and the front of the fan without a shroud. At speed it won't make a difference, but when the car is moving slowly or stopped, the shroud is a necessity.

You really have to look at ducting then. As I had said before, the biggest things are just making sure it's high pressure in front of the radiator and low pressure behind... Do you have any pics of your setup? If so, send them to XJGPN@aol.com... it would go a long way towards trying to diagnose problems...

Next time you plan on making a trip to E-ville let me know, I'd like to check the car out. Sounds mean

I've found that when the temp goes up really radically all of a sudden that it seems to be an air pocket in the coolant system. Just something you might want to take a look at. Good luck!
