Default Custom kit fabrication

I think I'm to a point where custom pipe fabrication is not going to be a issue, and I want to fabricate my own kit on my LS1.

This car has a lot of stuff removed, and there is a ton of room in the engine bay, so it shouldn't be too hard to get the pipe bending done.

Before I get too far into this, I don't know a lot about selecting turbos, can I go to a junk yard and get a old diesel turbo? Or is there another good source I could pick up a good turbo while I fabricate stuff, down the road I plan to buy a new turbo (Probably one from Garrett from what I have been reading).

Any input from people who have done (or attempted) this would be great

BTW : The motor is a low comp forged 408 LQ4 block, car is a 98 camaro

Buying used turbos, especially from the junk yard is risky business. Why not watch ebay, you can get new turbos for 5-600 off there. Not sure how good they are though.
