I'm damn-close to buying one, but I just can't get past the placement of the air filter - as soon as you put that puppie down there, the car is no longer capable of "daily driver" status - someone needs to come up with a better location.

did you attempt to brake load it at all?

I know F8L can build 5-7psi at the light brake loading.

It makes for quite the launch in a 4x4

As for the filter placement, they provide a drycharger and if your really worried fabbing up a shield for the filter would be super easy.

Definetly NOT a reason not to buy a kit IMO.

If I am not mistaken his turbo kit is nothing at all like the STS. If he is the killer blue '03 Z71 4X4 that was in Hot Rod last month, that turbo is in the engine compartment and that would offer much better spool-up characteristics.

wrong guy, your thinking of Parish i do believe.

F8L is the blue STS truck. You may have seen his semi famous tunnel video.

Nope, that's Parish8

I can easily build boost by brake stalling it. Once I hit 7psi and above the truck can't be held back through and it will start to roll forward. Launching at 6-7psi is good for 1.80-1.83 60's. I am working on keeping the truck steady so I can launch at 8psi or more If I launch off idle with this big turbo I can only get 2.1 60's.. It's tough moving 5100lbs of beef that quick. LOL

8psi launch (2.0 60'), then 6psi launch (1.84 60')
http://my.starstream.net/f8lpony/Jus...0-%20Small.WMV

My kit is kinda wacked since my turbo is way too big for my size motor (5.3L w/ GT67 and .81 housing) but even so I spool up pretty decent but lag is very evident. With the GT35 I hit full boost right about 3800rpm or so going from an off idle dig. I have a 3000stall (based on a stock motor) in the truck though and with that kind of TQ it is probably more like a 3500stall so boost came on hard and fast with that setup.. It just lacked the top end I wanted and I knew I'd be doing a 6.0L soon and the GT35 would be too small...

I watched the 8psi video and it seems to take quite a while for you to build up 8 psi off the line. The timer counted 6 seconds when you left the line and you were power braking the truck before the video clip started. I realize you have a pretty big turbo but you have a stall so that offsets it some.

Your truck runs real good and I'm sure gives most Lightnings fits.

We'd all like to see more times from the STS enhanced LS1 F-bodies out there. The dyno graphs are cool but we need more ETs.

I was still learning how to launch the thing that night. That was my first night out there with that setup and I kept blowing my damn intake tube off after 1/2 track LOL.. Hense the 12.9@94mph

Now I can get it to 6psi VERY quickly if I just mash the gas pedal. In the video I am slowly applying the gas and as it gets close to 5psi I got annoyed and started to floor it. I waste a good 3seconds just getting it to 1psi because I was so hesitant to just floor it. Not anymore

I hear ya though. Everyone knows what they can do on trucks so it's natural to want to see what it'll do on the F-bods considering over 3/4 of the people in this forum own cars.

I drive mine all the time. I have had the kit on since Feb. A shield would be easy to fab and install. FYI - the lowest part of my filter is 9in. off the ground. My car has been driven in snow and rain and it does great.

It would not build any boost off the line and would just try and push through the lights first. I think a good converter will work wonders. We'll see.

Yeah, try the converter. Maybe a 3500stall.... If you still can't sit still long enough maybe a 2-step will help. I know after 6psi I start to push through the line also.

Dyno numbers look great and i like the way it drives(according to Angie's description). The track times are not perfect, but i realize the trans was an issue, and lack of boost off the line was a problem.
I look forward to hearing more progress from you guys(and gals).
I think with my SS4000 stall ,boost off the line would not be an issue.
I would love to drop my Nitrous shot down to like a 30 shot and add the STS kit. Keep the info coming,Thanks again.

I wish you guys would leave the stock convertor in there so we can get a true "apples to apples" on this kit. If it requires a convertor to run a decent time, you have just lost a big advantage of the kit - ease of installation.

We did leave the stock TC in there and it's perfect for the street but at the track it needs a little help to build boost quicker for better 60' times.

No becasue this is a 100% daily driven street car so messing around with the brakes is not an option. It will run at the track just like it drives on the street.
