Default ALMOST hit 10s today....almost

I'm in Houston for business through the 28th, so my brother drove my car today at our COFBA Norwalk Day. He reported a best of 11.17@125 w/ 1.66 60' on 275/50/15 BFG DRs (15psi of tire pressure). What sucks is that the next pass, he cut a 1.62 60' (10s for sure), but my ATI idler pulley torqued and bent it's retaining washer, thus killing my belt tension. It ran a 11.4x@120 that pass, and we called it a day. It's a 10 minute swap for a $.50 washer, but I overlooked that when I packed my tools and replacement parts in the car before I left. This is the 3rd washer I've bent in a month. I guess it's time to have a machine shop cut a slightly thicker one, or maybe move to that SD? tensioner setup.

Anyways, I'm very happy with the car's performance and am very grateful my brother was able to take it up there in my absence. He claims to have enjoyed driving it, even if it is RWD (he has a GTP that runs mid-11s at 116ish)

So, 11.17@125 is this year's best. 10s were there, but got owned by a simple fender washer. Oh well, not too bad for a full street car with full interior, AC, stereo, and tuned for 94 octane pump gas

Mods in sig. Also, this was a consistant 12psi on a 5-rib Polycog belt. Last time I put the belt on, I accidentally left a rib over the crank pulley and it got chewed off. But it was making 12psi on the dyno last week, so I left it on since it was working. It stayed put

"I guess it's time to have a machine shop cut a slightly thicker one"

I was thinking about that just earlier today. We had to really crank down on the tensioner to keep the belt from slipping... and this is with an 8-rib! After the final turn on the tensioner bolt, I saw that the idler pulley looked a little lopsided. It's been fine so far and did okay on the dyno, but I'd feel better if I had a thicker washer on there.

Congrats Anthony...glad to see the MMS and RR 3.5 I sold you last year is doing the job. Do you still have a 10 bolt?

I had a friend make a nice 1/8" steel washer with a small groove that fit the slot, before I did that the pulley would rub the bracket when making a pass. That thin little washer is pretty sucky - congrats on the times.

Mark, they're working perfectly. Yes, I have the 10 bolt still, but it's been beefed up with a TA girdle, Zexel-Torsen HD posi, and GM gears. Been cutting 1.6-1.7 60; for a couple of years now with that setup. I do plan on a 9" in the next year however. I'd like to see some 60' on the 1.4 range

Got Me SOM, not at this point. The A/F is stuck at 10:1, and I'd added a few gallons of 100 octane to be on the safe side of things. Not to mention, Mike Brown was able to hit 9s with a turbo on the stock bottom end for awhile. The tune is good, so I have really no reservations on it's durability. The car weighs 3340 with a half-tank and no driver.

Hopefully this winter will be seeing the 427 going in. We'll have to see

Thanks kp

Do you still have this friend available? I'd be interested to see how much they'd charge to make me one. If you could check into it, I'd greatly appreciate it!

He has his own machine ship and made it in a few minutes but I doubt he will do another, kind of hard to get him to do anything most of the time

It was just a washer the same size as the ATI one but it was way thicker, also had a small (~.020) raised part that fit snug in the groove. Problem is once you get it not to move it will start eating idler bearings so stock up

Sounds like an awesome washer, kp. Do you happen to remember the width of the groove and the size of the washer? If so, I could take these numbers to the local machine shop and get them to make me one.

it was the same diameter as the stock thin washer, it was around 1/8" thick. The protruding part that fit in the groove was just a little smaller then the slot where the tensioner is.

Nope, you did a helluva job, Bill

Many phone calls, late nights, and tech searching proved it's worth. Add this one to your resume.

Plus, it also helps the tuner and test car reside 1/2 mile from each other
