Default New times for the STS equipt Z71

I decided to run the truck one more time and see if the water soaking hurt anything. I picked up some C16 on the way there and added 5ga to about 10ga of 91 octane I already had in the tank.

The weather was great and in the 60s most of the day so I knew times would be good if the motor was not hurt too bad.

I got to the track and weighed the beast in at 5100lbs (had over half a tank of gas and my subwoofers inside). So add me in and race weight = 5250lbs

With no adjustments ecept the race gas I went

1st run:

RT: .433
60': 2.14
1/8th:8.41 @ 87.55mph
1/4: 12.92 @ 108.7mph

2nd run:

RT: .090
60': 1.80
1/8th: 7.88 @ 87.5mph
1/4: 12.40@ 108.1mph

Crawled under the truck and turn up the boost by 1psi (hard to tell)

3rd run:

RT: .042
60': 1.85
1/8th: 7.87 @ 87.88mph
1/4: 12.33 @ 110.0mph

The first 2 passes were about 13psi due to the cold temps. When I turned up the boost for the 3rd run I only saw about 13.5-14psi through most of the run but as soon as I hit 3rd gear it hit almost 15psi and stuck there. Sad this is, the 60' was worse and I was bouncing off the rev limiter on my 2nd to 3rd gear change which hurt a little too.

At that point I felt I still had enough of a cushion to try to up the boost by half a pound and the temps were getting colder so i turn up the methanol for safety and was ready to try again but recieved a call from Rick @ Synergy who had just got a call from Rick Squires and I was told to shut it down and keep it in one piece. Guess there is something going on and I might need the truck to be in working order so I obeyed(sp?) and returned to the pits even though I know I could have went a little faster.

Overall I am VERY excited to finally see some decent #s. I guess the cooler temps and the race gas really did it's work. I can only imagine what I could have done had I used a wideband and some scanning software to make changes and try to max the thing out.

Thx bro!

I was gonna try for it tonight but decided not to be greedy. I'm gonna wait till I have my in-car wideband o2 before I start trying to push it. Well that and have my 6.0L ready to drop in should I push too hard.

I'm just happy that the STS kit achieved what I wanted. I just wish some of the car guys would man up and do a drag oriented setup. I can't carry the flag for them cuz most people don't realize how fast low 12s for a truck like mine is. LOL

Great new times ! That is really hauling for a heavy truck. So does Synergy own the truck or do you? I would have went for the money run.

I own the truck but my 2 reasons for shutting it down are bad ju ju, if I get greedy I will break. That's how racing works half the time. And if I have a chance at a magazine shoot then I'm taking it

Exactly bro! I still have all of winter left and lots of really good DA days coming my way. The boost will go up to see what the max this thing can take. it's all in the effort of science of course

No joke, you seem to be carring the flag for STS and great track times. Too bad all the f-body guys are scared to run their car at the track.
Excellent time, 11's are around the corner. Glad nothing was hurt when it ingested a lot of water.

Keep up the great track runs.

Nice times -- now get it down to that 3300-3400 lb raceweight and you'll be flying haha. Take the bed off and the cab and just sit on a little chair with a steering wheel

LMAO!

Thanks again guys. I was so excited last night I barely slept at all. LOL

I plan on trying for 11s if the mag thing falls through or afterwards if it works out. I wanna see what this poor lil 5.3L can handle before I do the 6.0L swap and really turn up the boost. It'll be a budget motor though. Just stock block with forged pistons, low compression, and rod bolts, maybe rods if they are cheap enough and stock 6.0L heads. I want to be able to handle about 18psi or so or whatever it takes me to get into the 650rwhp range.

Thanks for all the support guys even though it's not an F-body. Replies like this make it all worth it... well besides all the people who run up to gawk at your ride after a good run

Not all of the F-body guys are scared, some of us just don't have the money. I was hoping to show some good track times after my 12 bolt shows up but I think I either blew a head gasket or cracked my block. If I cracked my block it will be a long time before I get it to the track due to lack of funds, unless someone would like to buy my motorcycle so I can build my motor. So far you are carring the flag for us and you are doing well. I hope you hit the 11's so all of the haters will shut up. I would like to post my dyno sheet if anyone will do it for me.

What are you using for tuning if I might ask? Just letting the MAF do it? Or do you have an FMU or what? 14psi seems like alot for the MAF to adjust to.

Haters?? I don't see any haters in this post?? In fact here on the FI board here on tech we have really been accepting of the STS kit and the power it makes, now cz28.com and LS2 is another story. I personally love this kit and its simplicity. Now about STS f-body owners with decent track times are like hens teeth, few and far between. How hard is it to bolt up a set of DR or Nittos...why get a turbo kit and run it at the track on street tires?? No hating here buddy, ask pureyvl(was formerly know as 5 liter eater) and F8L Z71, and do a search you will see me posting nothing but the positive on the STS kits. Now stop taking things that weren't directed towards you personally so personally, and go fix it and run it or keep quiet.
