Default why my IATs so high?

I have the STS kit, and with no meth and IC on 3psi, my IATs were WAY over 150 (nearing 180 after 15 sec run)

i did a full run to 150 and thats actually when i broke my motor... i formatted my comp so the ataps are gone, but i know if i stayed on boost for more then 4-5 secs it would near 160... is that normal with the STS?
can my IAT gone bad? ( i highly doubt this)

I know with the STS kid (2 of my friends have it) u dont near 150 with 3psi... u get close to 150ish on 5psi, so why did mine heat up so much?

maybe its the crazy NA cam i had? (230 / 244, .510 / .540 112 LSA/LT1) with that crazy exhaust duration and 112 LSA maybe i was getting some exhaust into the intake which caused the temps to go up a lil bit?

First, your not suppose to boost ant turbo that long(did the same thing in my wife's GN and blew it up)
The highest I've seen is 149 degree's from 6lbs so far,so maybe it was in the tune or possibly the Cam.

huh? not really sure what you mean...not supposed to boost a turbo for so long? What?
The intake temps are normal. That was in 90+ degree humid south florida weather. Most people up north see 150 as their upper limit due to more dry cool weather.

Cam overlap causing it to push hot air into intake? Extremely doubtful!

I see...
good point... hot FL air would def not help, and humidity would not help if not make it even worse...

slowhawk, what do u mean not supposed to boost for that long? 0-150 is prolly like a 20-30 sec thing for me

you might want to listen to him since hes the only guy making any real numbers out of sts kits and he will be your first real guy to prove these kits dont suck ***** and can make 600 rwhp. Since no one else has proven it, he took the challenge. Also my cam overlap did make my iats way higher so hes right on that point. Also holding any turbo car for excessive highway runs under full load is bad, usually thats when head gaskets go. At least on grand nationals. Your sts kit managed to pop my head gasket on the dyno which the d1 with 630 rwhp never had that problem. Just for reference.

what do you consider excessive?

I had extra cyl clearance honed in for that extra expansion that will occur under long pulls

I wouldnt think so either, but seen it a few times. Like someone mentioned earlier, you can get things done to a block to better prepare it. You will work it out im sure, good luck with it and keep us posted

I agree the stock gaskets are not great for boost, but the reason you blew a gasket is most likely because:
1. You were detonating or
2. Engine was getting hot or
3. Your IAT's were really high

doing something like MLS will work great and doing that requires no block modification.

0 - 150 runs are fine with proper tuning and cooling

btw we have made almost 600rwtq on stock motor. dyno results will be up soon

hhhmmm, when is one of these STS cars going to go fast. Lets stop with Supra dyno number stuff and see one fly down the track in the 9 second area, cause with 600 to the tires thats close to were you should be.

you obviolsy dont understand turbos then, cause without a full race setup and two step to build boost, yada yada you aint going 9's period. Also it took 800ish for mightymouse to barely squeek a nine. Noyzee had 600 rwhp twins and got 10.7

Well if those are geared toward my setup, your wrong. My iats were 68, engine not even close to 200. And certainly no detonating. **** the timing was 14 and the boost was 10psi. I got mls now, not sure why the gasket blew, it was a felpro but im hoping the gt70 is just making that much more power then the d1 at 10 psi This thursday will tell the tale of the gt70 sts on a fmic forged h/c setup

Yeah I have heard to stay away from the Felpro and Cometic. Get MLS and be done.
10psi is quite a bit on a stock motor. Still not sure why you blew the felpro.
The gt70 setup should be interesting...

Ya I got the gm mls and they are very nice esp for 16 bucks My motor isnt even close to stock so this should be good. I replaced my SC cam as well with a cam more geared to turbo, didnt feel like having a peak of 6800 with the gt70 so hopefully the new cam will bring it down to 5800ish

Lot's of boost in a motor for a long period of time will heat the cylinder/heads up alot and can easilly cause a head gasket or piston to blow. Now,I would point towards the tuning/cam as the problem with the poster because it was only 3lbs.

Yes,a Cam does affect the heat in the motor. Not the inlet temp but the block temp.

Even Turbo deisel trucks have problems with them overheating while holding boost/load to long and they are built for Turbo's.

purevl, your setup sounds identical to mine. H/C Forged 370 GT70 FMIC. I'm having clutch troubles, but when thats straightened out I should be able to get some numbers.

the felpros suck. they seem to blow out all the time. happened to a car here with a 370 and 10psi on a D1. Blew out in a day or two, switched to the GM gaskets and the car has been running for months with more boost, no problems.
