Question Dyno'd STS weird

Car history is a 2000 TA with LT's, LS6 intake, 42lb injectors, fuel upgrade. The turbo is the upgrade t67 .81 housing I believe. Well the #'s at 6lbs were 415rwhp and 447rwtq. That is with A\F around 11.5 to 11.8 can't exactly remember and 16.5 degrees of timing. We tried to turn up the boost but the AIT skyrocket to around 150 to 170, they were at about 120 then at 4500 to 4800 they just jump up. That was just by adding 1/2 to 3/4 more boost. Now the thing is this thing pulled like a freaking raped ape on the street, way harder than the hp #'s indicated. Anyway just wanted to here some of you guys input. I'll try to get the dyno sheet up this weekend b\c this is my buddies car so I'll have to take some pics this weekend.

What's wierd about that?

You don't have an intercooler.

Compressing air makes ALOT of heat, I wouldn't be surprised to see my pre-intercooler temps near 270°.

Harlan is correct. Just carry a 50 gallon drum of meth in the car with you, that will take care of it....lol. No in all seriousness, the advertising that they claim about the pipe acting as an intercooler is a total lie and fabrication. The simple way around this is some of the fellas here on the board have swapped in OBX IC's, which will help lower the IAT's substantially. Also if you really want to get serious with boost on a STS system a Water to air unit is coming

Yeah I new the temps would go up, but it would'nt make anymore power no matter how much more boost we tried to put on it. I guess with the heat its just not efficiant. He's going to get a meth kit soon so hopefully we can get some good power out of it then.

Congrats man

Like stated above. The IAT gain is perfectly normal. Mine were in the 230deg range when we tried to run 13psi without the intercooler. Only way we could even get close to running it at that PSI was with the meth injection. I still ended up with an intercooler. I feel that is the best way to go. The meth is still my friend and adds octane but I don't have to rely on it to cool my intake charge and that allows me to use VERY little meth.

Yeah he's thinking meth, but I have been thinking going to a fmic for my car so I might let him get my twin ic's from my ATI kit. He don't want to cut and fab on his car for a fmic.

I would not rely on a Dyno to tell you what your power is because everyones Dyno room will make a difference. Get a good room with good air flow and cooling, you will do well. Get a bad one, and crappy numbers you will have. Seen it first hand with Turbo cars and trucks. I stuck to the track after that.

Also, your car will load differently on the street with a turbo than on the Dyno. Unless you can produce a true load on the dyno that you get from the street, you wont see the same results. Hope this helps. And yes they are all right, put an Intercooler on it. More power from that.

I also found there is no real difference with or without LT's. It actually works better with manifolds on. And if you have LT's, you cant have any clamps on them. They have to be welded 100% or you loose turbo pressure. And on 6psi, 410 at the wheels is what I am getting out here with most cars, so you are on the money with that. Dont be discouraged, just run someone on the street and it will change your outlook.

Our 5 psi kit is fine with out an intercooler but go much above that and you'll need something. I don't know how soon but you guys will probably see an STS front mount in the future offered as an upgrade for the Fbody.

My car had the crap beat out of it on the proving grounds at SEMA at 5-6 PSI with out an intercooler, ask anybody who was there and they'll tell ya how strong it ran.

As for this:
"Harlan is correct. Just carry a 50 gallon drum of meth in the car with you, that will take care of it....lol. No in all seriousness, the advertising that they claim about the pipe acting as an intercooler is a total lie and fabrication..."
Actually it does work I was driving back from SEMA yesterday doing 150 with full boost and I looked down and my IAT was 89 degrees. The pipe does act as an intercooler but above 7 psi you'll need our $500 Meth kit or just mount the $250 ebay IC. The Meth kit is great for those guys who want to run a higher PSI every now and then and don't want to chop their front end up.
