Exclamation ATI D1 or STS?

Ive been doing a lot of research the last couple weeks and for the love of god I cant decide which to go with.

On a side note.. if I go with the STS kit Ill go with an upgraded turbo, not the base kit.

BTW.. what are IATs lookin like on the STS kits? Non ICed of course.

I know Id be happy with either one but Im riding the fence on this decision.

Throw out your opinions... help me make my decision.

FWIW... Im leaning towards the D1.

search my name since I just took a 630 rwhp d1 setup and switched it for a gt70 STS setup. For what its worth the STS killed the d1 and made its power way sooner and I even run a much much smaller cam. Driveability is way better, no belts to deal with either. I made 625hp with 10psi by like 4500 rpms with the sts. Im near 700 rwhp now since Im running 14psi.

I agree, turbo all the way. However, there's another option soon to be released. I've been watching and waiting. If you see the power it's putting out on a ls1 corvette. I'm going to wait.

Here's the site: www.turbochargedpower.com

retail is 9500, sale price is 8500....holy ****, you could buy an sts kit and a forged motor for that But the kit looks awesome on the vette and 8 psi it makes some sick power too. Esp for only 12 degress timing.

look at their release kits price for the camaro/firebird. I think it said $3800 for single turbo stage 1. I will see if I can find it real quick.

Thanks guys.. as for other options.. Im going either ATI or STS, those brands specifically. The ATI D1 I can get away with when it comes to smog... and the STS is supposed to get a CARB cert soon. Im in CA so those things are a big factor for me.

PurEvl.. I was dead set on the D1 until I saw your post.. I saw that before I posted this. Its one of the reasons I put this thread up.

Nick is very concerned with smogability so those 2 kits are basicly the only chouces. Even if STS doesn't get the CARB approval, the kit is so simple to remove he will still be ok.

Nick, so are all the threads about belt slippage, crank pinning or flying off starting to scare you? LMAO

I know you'll be happy with the power either way. It's just figuring out which kit will work best for your goals..

Have you gone for a ride in Chris Hart's car?

Actually from what Ive heard the ATI kits now come with a 8 rib setup and it works just fine.. and if I do have probs there are other alternatives such as a SDCE tensioner. Crank pinning.. nahh.. no biggie.

I did go for a ride in Chris Harts car... but it was when Lindsay owned it, she slammed 2 gears and that was it, more of a teaser then anything. I think it wasnt running up to par at the time. It did feel nice.... but you know me.. Im not easily amused by fast cars.

I know Ill be happy with either one.. and Ill make over 500rwhp with either kit.... but it just seems to me that the dyno graphs on the turbo cars look a tad better. I dunno.... it seems kinda like a wash to me.. the ATI dynos Ive seen show better low end and less top end power.. where the turbo graphs show more top end and a flatter TQ curve. I guess thats how its always been though.. I just need to figure out which one I want. If only Magna Charger made one for the F-body I wouldnt be debating.

PurEvl. If you don't mind me asking. Who did you get your kit from, and how much was it? I was wondering if any one was making big numbers from the STS yet. I see that you are. My goal is 650rwhp 650rwtq. With heads and a forged 383. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. If you don't want to put it in print can you PM me please.

I would go with standard mount turbo kit, who cares if it cost twice as much as the STS kit, do it once do it right!

These linds of posts are really getting tiresome. Why pay twice as much when you don't want 700hp?
