Default STS questions for NE1 with a Turbo

I was leaning towards the STS kit and have a couple questions for people with turbos:

1. Is anyone having issues with crankcase pressures for the STS kit or any other turbo kit at these lower boost levels (ie. 8 psi)?

2. Does crankcase pressure only become a problem when running high boost levels?

If I eventually need to get my bottom end forged, would it be cheaper to buy the shortblock or buy the parts that make up the shortblock assuming I pay for labor either way to have it installed.

Would any sponsors wanna pm me a price and expected installation costs to give me an idea of what to expect.

I want a streetable and reliable 500rwhp without nitrous. Any suggestions?

The STS kit comes with a pretty nifty PCV ventilation system. If need be, a catch can may be added to this in order to take care of any blow-by but we have a customer car running 9psi on a bone stock WS6 with nothing more than the STS Kit and Methanol Kit and have had very very little blow-by.

If you want to go forged and run 10psi or more then you should check out some of the sponsors on the boards. HPE is a great builder, along with others.

Will send PM...

I have not used there valve on the kit's I installed yet, just vent it to the atmosphere and get rid of the PVC all together. You do need to change the oil more frequent(2500miles) but it does get rid of over pressurizing the crankcase and having oil sucked in the PVC.

As for power I highly recommend a front mount intercooler with anything over 5lbs.You will be very close to your goal of 500hp on pump gas.

Havent had any problems with mine and i run 5psi...in the works of getting everything together to run 8psi. I did get oil comming out the exhaust due to a malfunction of the check valve (which i got taken care of...billy at TRT turbo sent me one for free took 30 min to put in and havent had problems since, i had one of there older kits before STS changed check valves) but other then that I have had no problems with it. Runs AWESOME now that its so cold out. Now just to fix my exhaust leaks, remove the cats, replace valve springs, new fuel pump and injectors, forged pushrods, FMIC, boost controller, turbo timer and get a real tune then i should be cooking

the STS kit has a pipe that runs down the drivers side of the car that would normally be where your SFC would sit. Although, STS has made this pipe stronger then the rest of the kit to act as a make-shift SFC. Its all good... just dont plan on pulling the tires off the ground.

I had mine tuned at 5PSi and decided to up the boost to 8psi and add a cam and I got on it racing a 04 Cobra and blew a hole in 2 of my pistons BEFOR A TUNE so there was little pressure. The great thing was I blew the valve cover gasket off before the head gasket thats saying something for those LS1 head gaskets. Just my 2 cents
