Default Turbo whine?

Do turbos whissle or whine at idle like blowers do? I love turbos, but that whine a blower makes sitting at a traffic light is highly addictive

The electric turbo does though. That sounds like what you really want...

that's funny ss00blue.. seems like those electric turbo's would be good to blow up inflatable objects.. don't know about pushing tiny amounts of air into the intake of a vehicle

Well they dont wine at idle, but there is nothing like the sound of a turbo and blow off valve when shifting gears!

Turbos are exhaust driven, Superchargers are driven off a belt. When at idle there is not enough pressure in the exhaust to spin a turbo so the impellers are not moving. A Supercharger on the other hand is always spinning off the belt hence it still makes noise.

I personally like the turbo stealth factor at idle and just love the sound of it spooling as you leave the intersection. The sudden surprised look from people can be priceless.

turbos do spin at idle. just not fast enough to make any real sound.

Oh I have to disagree as mine are realy loud at idle. It is b/c I have 3"from each turbo to a Y and then a 12bullet w/ turn down before the axle. When we started it up all I could hear was the whissle. Sounded Like a helicopter blades with the wind/whissle noise! Oh and I have no BOV but I have heard it and it sounds cool.

I plan to just run a downpipe from my turbos and dump them out, don't know how loud it will be yet though.

It really depends on the size of turbo(s) and your exhaust. With my twins and no exhaust. You could here them real well at idle. With the big turbo on the Formula, even though it has hardly any exhaust. It is barely even spinning at idle.
