Default Exhaust Question for FI Setup..

Hello All..

I'm changing my Exhaust setup and going with a SLP center Exhaust instead of my loudmouth. I bought a single 3" Electric Cutout, that I was going to place just after the y pipe. Question though. I like the sound of open headers. I was thinking about going dual electric cutout stright after my SLP LT headers. My questions is this, how much (if any) Gain in RWHP will I see having a Dual 3" Cutout just after the headers on a 14PSI Blown LS1? You sound will be great, but is it worth while RWHP wise, to do all the extra work and cost? VS going through the y-pipe. Also, will there be a problem with tuning having the cutout soo close to the 02's. Anyone have this type of setup and how do you like it? Also do these Electric cutouts seal very well? I don't want to have an exhaust leak, before or after the y-pipe.

thanks..

Clint

I have one cutout in the I-pipe after the Y-pipe. Anyways the car made 548rwhp 499rwtq with the cutout closed and i was seeing 8psi. I opened the cutout and it made 555rwhp 502rwtq and i saw 7psi on the gauge. So i gained 7rwhp and 3rwtq with the cutout open.

Yes, but gained 7rwhp 3rwtq. I had the cutout on the car before so i just wanted to test how much of a difference it will make with a SC'd car. It gave me 10rwhp 8rwtq N/A before. So the gains are even less with a SC'd car from what i have tested.

Well.. You lost 1 psi of boost due to less back pressure. Put that 1 psi back in there and it would be a gain of about 30RWHP probibly.

I'm running dual exhaust, 3" dual mufflers, and I bet if I removed them I would pick up 25rwhp. If it were my car I'd run at least one 3" cutout, or two.

PSJ..

I have a 3" Cutout now and I was going to put it behind the y pipe.. I could though, get 2 3" right off the headers. The sound would be great, but wondering if it's worth the extra cost, and are there any problems having them soo close to the o2 sensors.

Be sure you don't put cutout's too close to the O2's or you'll set the sensor's off.

If I had a setup like that, I'd put the cutouts at least a foot back from the 02 sensors.

Is it worth the cost... hard to say. With one cutout you are already better off. I would run a quiet catback if I had cutouts, best of both worlds.

That's what I'm doing... I will hardly ever have the cutout open, so I'm thinking I'll stick with a Single cutout.

Also PSJ. What are your Pulley Dimensions?? A Friend of mine wants to see 18 to 20psi of boost on his 8 to 1 compression LT1 383, with Meth injection. It will be a monster. I did the math. He's going to run a 7.5" Crank pulley and a 2.5" Blower on his Vortech YSI. Spinning it to about 64,000 impeller speeds at 6,200 engine rpms max, he will usually shift at 5500 to 6000. If the belts don't slip, which I think it will with a 8rib 2.5" blower pulley, I'm sure he will see plenty of boost with that, but with the loss of air at 6,000 feet where we are, we are wondering if he will see 18 to 20psi. What are your pulley specs, and I would guess a 15% to 20% loss accordingly, from sealevel to here in boost.

I am running a stock Vortech LS1 crank pulley setup, 8.00 I believe.

I run a 2.85 blower pulley.

I have a hard time imagining a 2.50 pulley working.
