Default The Ultimate Qmp Car

ok maybe not the ultimate but it does finally work now with no creep issues. now just have a few boost drop questions. for the last month Mike Brown has had my car and has been reworking it. if you guys remember i had issues with over boosting and could never get it figured out. mike said he could help and he did. even though it was the longest 2 weeks i have ever experienced. i took him the car like the 12 of Dec. but thanks to a the weather it took a little more time to test it. any ways i drove it home today and the car feels STRONG. no traction what so ever in the first 3 gears and then 4th is a little iffy. power is in the sig. just a few more things to work out and i'll be ready for the spring. front end alignment, some more tuning, whees & tires, suspension, and now trying to figure out why the boost drops from 9-7 psi. and holds. if its not one boost problem its another. any imput from all turbo gurus is great appreciated. and just for fun does anybody want to guess track times and how long the stock rear will hold up?

once again thanks to mike brown he is the man, raymer for advise on his kit, and anybody else that took part in this whole project.

Your welcome. Sorry it took so long. Damn weather.

With the drop. I sent you a PM back. Nothing a little fine tuning won't take care of.

I don't think that stock rear will last long. A 12bolt would make a nice wedding gift to your self.

my thoughts exactly. maybe everybody on the board could throw a dollar, or better than that just 50 cents, my way and i could get it taken care of. i think that sounds like a good idea. you guys should do that. pm me if you want my paypal addy.

Peace,
Josh

His setup couldn't evacuate enough boost pressure so he was getting overboost. Mike fixed it by venting the QMP's HKS WG to atmosphere and adding a second WG to the x-over I believe to allow boost to hold.

Would this be an inherent problem in the QMP kit, or a fluke?

Thanks,
Josh

it happens to a lot of the early qmp kits and also i am just trying to run 9psi. other guys running the kit are running higher boost and not experiecning the problem. right now it is doing fine but it spikes which i guess is normal. just have to get a good tune and get the rest of it finished. ill be in lexington soon

mine crept up to 15psi when i first put it on, then found the manifolds were made 'wrong' after i put the new 'good' manifold on it never held above 10psi again.

*i never added a second wastegate to the crossover but agree that was a very good move*

hope i dont have that problem. as soon as i get some things taken care of i plan on hitting this car pretty hard. not saying im going to run 9s with a 6 speed or anything but i intend on making a good showing in the long run. did you ever figure out why it wouldnt go above 10psi

I was making and holding 15psi just fine with my 348ci motor... we'll see what happens with the non-stock cam.

kaos, that drop problem is due to a lot of backpresure from that kit do the double valve springs and i bet that will help a lot, also does it seem to drop around 4300 rpm

well i have the 918's on there and yeah it seems to start right at about that rpm maybe a little lower. also that is throught the muffler, mike nor i have yet to open the cut out. my main issue was the creep/overboost and he figured if it wouldnt creep with it closed it deffinitly wont with it open. squirrel, what kind of single kit do you have and what did you do to fix the drop?

MM how do i tell what the housing size is, i have warbirds old kit and he sold me a .96 housing, at least thats what i was told

thats 76mm you should be ok where you are right now.

*edit* on the very first kits.. maybe even just mine.. the wastegate pipe to the downpipe was made the wrong size.. too small... so it would not allow enough exhaust through to halt the boost increase. also the manifold was welded so that it placed the turbo firmly against the framerail.

no the tubes on mine were way too small as well, and my turbo is close to the frame but not touching. we must have had some of the original kits. and mike tried to enlarge the pipes and they just wouldnt do even venting to atmosephere. now i have the two wg's on and both venting to air and no creep issues just dropping a little. and my turbo is a 74, i think. at least thats what warbird said
