because the import guys like things with blinking lights on them

I think they are supposed to prevent your bearings from getting coked up, if the turbo can drain itself I would'nt think you would really need one, but they're might be other reasons

Why spend 300 or so dollars when you can just wait around for 3~5 minutes and let it cool down by itself? Just my $.02 Spend the 300 you saved on something else you really need.

turbo timers are designed to help cool down the turbo and engine after a good beating. I.E.-extending the life of the turbo and engine

Yeah, but its not like they do anything special that you can't do by letting your car idle for a while, while standing by it or sitting in it. The main thing you need to do is let the oil circulate enough to cool down and keep it from cooking on the bearings and shaft surfaces. Carbonized oil on turbo impeller shafts suck.

I bought a slightly used one for $50 but I havent put it on yet. The main reason I bought it is because there have been times where I have been running late for something but I still have to sit in the car and wait for it to cool down.

Unless your turning off your car while your egt gauge is over 400F-450F then you don't really need one. Once it gets down that low, and it's gravity fed, then you should be fine.

Not sure why someone would pay 300 on a turbo timer I know the new ones do all kinds of crap now but all you need is the timer. You can get those new for like 80 bucks. I don't know about you but when I have somewhere to be the last thing I wanna do is sit in my car 3-5 mins. You can hook a turbo timer up to your hand break that way if someone jumps in the car to steal it as soon as they put the break down the car shuts off.

You only need one if you just ran a roadrace and are turning the engine off before you reach the pits....lol. 1-2 minutes of idle cool down is more then enough.

Yep, and I was just saying 300 bucks as a figure, some of them are down right pricey, guess that's what the import shops can charge because that's what the "cool" ricers will pay. Besides...just plan that in to your trip, though I know we all run late sometimes.

You're missing the issue, if your turbo is water cooled you don't need one of these gizmos, since there is adequate cooling after shutoff. If the turbo is not water cooled you should definitely consider.

Alot of decent aftermarket alarms have a turbo timer built in. I had a Viper 560XV which is a relatively low level Viper and it had it, you could adjust it from 2 to 10 minutes or something like that.

Now that's a decent thing of a company to do. Have the foresite in their product enough to put that in there.

You can also hook it up to the brake and/or gas pedal just like a remote car starter. Once either is depressed it shuts off.

i run one, the blitz. cost me ~$70 new. friend installed it. Free. I think it's a cheap insurance measure to help keep the turbo from getting coked up.

I think you got the 300 figure mixed up with an EBC. They're worth it.
