MAP Sensors
#25
Screwy question for anyone... my car was tuned with stock map. I ran 15 lbs boost without issue...and am wondering what was happening by me doing that??? More importantly, if i swap to the TTA 3 bar and make no changes otherwise...what will happen??? Sorry for the rather novice question.

If you switch to the TTA 3 bar, and do nothing else, the computer will be recieving false readings.
I believe all MAPs (1,2 and 3 bar) output a voltage from 0.1-5 volts.
for the 1 bar 15kpa (-12.5psig) = 0.1volts and 5 volts for 105kpa (.5psig)
the 2 bar outputs 15kpa (-12.5psig) = 0.1volts and 5 volts for 210kpa (15.8psi)
so your just outputing different volts for the given pressure

There are thousands of boosted cars and trucks running with the stock MAP sensor. The LS1/LS6 uses the MAF sensor to detect the increase in airflow/boost. The MAP sesnor is used in helping to determine engine load. The PCM treats 0 psi of boost or 15 psi of boost the same.
