Default Twin roots blower setup?

I have a couple of questions about twin-supercharger setups.

First, what is the advantage? I read somewhere that unless you run them in a series (outlet of one supercharger feeds the inlet of the second), you don't get any additional boost. Would the additional volume of air make a difference if I don't see a drop in boost at redline anyway?

Second, does anyone know if Magnacharger makes a setup like this? Someone mentioned in passing in another forum that they make a manifold that will hold two blowers, similar to the twin-supercharged engines from www.nelsonracingengines.com, but their website doesn't have anything about it. I sent their tech guys an email, but haven't gotten a response.

Thanks!

i think the main advantage of, say twin mags, is the volume you can shift per rev. the most you can move with a single whipple is 3.3ltr, but if you used 2 of the 1.6ltr (pretty small bower that would be easy to package) then you are getting 3.2, not that far off so if you went for two 2.3ltrs......also, as you can shift more air you can spin the blower slower and thus reduce inlet temps. also coz you would normaly mount the twin blowers not on top of the engine, so it is easier to incorp a intercooler, and you could run a more effective (on the road) air to air intercooler as well.

a lot of manufatures run single blowers (Jag, merc, etc) but Aston did use a twin blower set up on their old V8!

Thansk Chris.

But to use two full-size blowers, is there an advantage?

Nevermind...I just talked to someone at Magnacharger, and for a small block he said I wouldn't gain much, if anything.

Thanks!

you have to run them parallel.. not in series...

positive displacement blowers work by moving X volume of air into a smaller space...
for example, my eaton M112 moves 112Ci of air per revolution.
of course, to shove enough air into a larger motor, you have to spin it faster.

when it spins faster, there becomes a point where its less efficent... it starts heating up the air too much and you'll start to lose power.

by running two of them, say dual M90s, instead of 90ci of air per rev, you get 180ci of air per rev.... you can then spin the slower, hopefully in the "sweet spot" and make more power.

but really, its better to run one large, efficient supercharger then two smaller ones.......

There was one LS1 that had them setup in Parallel. There was debate as to whether is was real or photoshop. Might have been from Australia.

The Australians are freakin crazy (in a good way mates ). Watch the video with the eaton blower... sounds like a Cobra to me, very sweet.

Also the IR manifold looks sweet too, although you loose bottom end torque. Looks like about 262 lb/ft of torque at 2000 RPM. Sounds bad *** too
