Talking LS1TECH Project "HOSS" - which power adder?

I recently purchased a low mileage 1999 Hugger Orange SS for a daily driver. photos here I'm planning on doing a forced induction setup on the project, but haven't decided on which route I'll take. Here are my goals:

500-550 rwhp on pump gas
no drivability issues
no reliability issues
must retain A/C and power accessories
quiet operation, nearly stock exhaust sound (I hate loud exhausts)

I was thinking about putting on a set of stock 6.0L heads, and I also have a 230/227 114 cam sitting on the shelf. The car is a 6-speed, and I will be adding a 12-bolt rearend to the car to handle the power.

Whatever setup I go with, I'll be doing a full write-up on the installation, and taking tons of photos. The car is sure to get a ton of coverage, as usual.

So, what do you guys want to see?

Tony

That cam is begging for a Turbo, but you can always get a SDEC 8 rib D-1SC and with a mild cam and call it a day. Good luck.

Ive been thinking about this too for drivability reasons maily, and in the long run it seems cheaper to go turbo. Id be able to make power without the need for a huge *** cam. And for the quiet operation, that isnt a must for me, i just want the turbo so damn big that it dosent spool up till the other side of 3k, lol. Freeway runs would be a whole lot more fun

I vote for one of the Turbo kits available from a sponsor, more specifically Phamspeed, STS or PTK. I think going with a Phamspeed would be awesome, not only help them out by providing coverage, but ccomplish your goals as well. They definately been working for our community. Just my IMHO.

One for the SC guys here. See my sig....the reason every has problem with SC's is either pushing them too hard (lot's or RPMs on the base kit coupled with the fact that the shitty procharger belt set-up can't handle much for very long)!

Now that SDCE has solved the belt problem...here's my recommendation.

Procharger Kit for that car with an F1 SC. You will not have to spin it as hard (larger pulley) to acheive 10PSI which will put you right in the middle of your desired goal at a minimum.

SDCE Spring Tensioned 8-Rib set-up.....as others will tell you....it's does not slip or break!

Other Pro's...easy to install, no heat issues, easily retain AC. Probably do it for $5k and one long weekend + fuel system upgrade, but you will have to do that anyways.

Good Luck!

Turbo would be cool. I would get a 9" over the 12 bolt though.

hmmmmm thats a hard one Tony. You want to leave the motor alone right? Or bottom end that is.... Id say if you did decide to go turbo give SDCE a call for sure and if you decide to go turbo id like to see you try Phamspeeds kit. Now that a few people have it we will see results soon for HP and track times. I know Jer (FRCEFED) will have his up and running a few days after he recieves all his parts and and will be working on the tune non stop till he gets it.... track times will be soon.
I cant tell you what i think of a turbo setup because my new setup isnt done yet. I know i had ALOT of problems in the beginning with the SC kit.... You know that Tony you were there....... So think about that one....
Thats my .02

I think you should put together a P1-SC setup and show everyone that you don't need a D1 for a sick street setup.

A big single turbo would be cool to add to your fleet.

I don't want to touch the shortblock for now. I'd be happy with anything over 500 rwhp and daily-drivable. Yes, those turbos are appealing to me, since I already have had a 525 rwhp NA LS1, and now have a supercharged LS6 in the '69. No turbos yet

Twin Turbo! Or Big Single Turbo like a T-88, Big Front Mount, AFR heads and cam package. Should make over 500 with ease... I think you should try get 130 mph trap speed with a stock bottom end.

read carefully: I don't want a 408 right now. I also don't think it is necessary to run twins for only 500 rwhp, right? Who makes a twin kit that keeps the A/C?

Find an old Incon kit. I edited my post above yours and took out the 408 comments and threw some new ones in there.

Heads/cam/nitrous and your done

I wouldnt do anything where you had to cut apart the bumper cover for an intercooler. I would do a P1SC or D1SC with the stock intercoolers and a 6 rib SDCE spring tensioner, decent headers and call it a day - easy 500rwhp on pump gas with a M6. Racetronix in-tank, 42lb injectors, gauges and a good tune and thats about it. Plus you really dont have to chop the car up to do it, only downside is noise and running hot with the a/c on, some car do and some dont. Plus its easy to work on, self contained oiling and if something screws up on the road just stick an air filter on the MAF, cut the belt and drive it on home..

With the M6 in my old car and a P1SC with MAC headers, through MAC cats and a stock dual/dual I made 486rwhp with like 7psi. Stock cam, stock heads, LS1 intake etc and the car drove like stock and still got stock gas mileage - hard to beat that. Only downside was belt slip and the ATI idler pulley wearing down, all that would be fixed with the SDCE kit.

Well it sounds like Phamspeed may be for you. Their kit will meet your power goals easily and there will be plenty left in the kit whenever you decide to go forged (if you do). There's a vid of Amargeddon's car that got posted in this section. He's not even tuned yet and that thing is running really strong.

Edit: I see you already posted in that thread...

Hey Tony, how hard was the install on the 69? I was on my way into work this AM and drive past a first Gen for sale. I'm stopping to look @ it on the way home. I hate that life is full of choices!!!!
