Default How deep do you drill when pinning crank?

I have some 1/4" dowl and roll pins that are 1.5inches long, and the crank pinning tool, but I do not know how far you actually drill into the crank. Obviously I can grind down the dowls/roll pins if nessecary. Any help would be appreciated.

The pins I had were about an inch long. I taped the drill bit up with electical tape just a hair past an inch so the dowel pin would sit flush. Use a drill bit thats made for driling into metal and the job will be that much easier and faster. Spray the drilled hole out with carb cleaner and install the pin...should be it.

What kind of "tool" is needed to do this? A normal drill and a good eye arent enough? I don't think it matters if the hole is perpendicular to the crank, as long as the hole is straight and the pin goes in.

Its a "collar" That has a guide hole for the drill bit and bolts to the crankshaft with the bolt thats in the kit. You can get a pin kit from most sponsors to the left. It has to be done with this collar or you will probably **** something up pretty good. It drills into crankshaft snout and into the crank pulley, the pin locks em together.

looks like I'll be grinding these dowls down to an inch and just going in that far with the drill. Thanx for the info!

They should be a tight fit and stay in there, but the crank bolt holds em in as well.

Here's a pic, can't remember who's this is.
