Default Meth or N2O

Quick question, what provides a better cooling effect on turbo motors. Meth inj or N20. If N20 then what application (i.e. Direct port, intercooler sprayer, etc.) How do the IAT's compare and what are the up/down sides to using each. Thanks

Nitrous makes power, meth just cools it down.

But since nitrous makes power, your combo needs to handle that much more power. If I sprayed a 100 shot on top of my combo, I might hit an unlocked 900rwhp but I am not sure my head gaskets could take it.

Thanks John, what about using the N2O as an intercooler sprayer? Would that lower IAT's more than Meth without using the N2O as a power adder? What are the downsides to doing this other than cost? What if I didn't have to worry about making too much power Would a DP N2O setup cool it enough, if so what shot on say 20psi? Thanks again

You mean spray nitrous on the outside of an intercooler? Like the NX kit?

#1
You could do that, but I would use C02. Cheaper.

#2
If you did that, might cool off the 'cooler before making a run, but I don't think it would work that well going down the track... it would disperse too fast right?

Both cool, You've got to compensate for the extra power through nitrous though.

Im already planning a 2 stage 150 DP setup but i want to keep my IAT's down if i do decide to get all up on it on street setup (11-13psi). I was thinking about a meth setup to auto spray when the IAt's get high. Would you all suggest that or CO2 sprayed across the intercooler. What would keep the IAT's more consistant not necessarily coldest. I want a good street/strip setup. Thanks guys keep 'em comming

I think (i have zero personal experience) that meth would be better than external spraying.

Your thought is better than mine. Just wanted to see if I could get away with doing something a little different. I guess theres a reason people go with meth. Thanks again

I was in the same boat as you, I considered meth, CO2 sprayer bar, and Nitrous spray bar, with all the homework I did it was a no contest and I chose meth. Not only will it provide the cooling effect, it can add power and increase safety as well. Just my $0.02

If you're not spraying the nitrous into the motor, don't bother with it. You'll be wasting juice I could be using.

meth cools plus adds octain and fuel. You would be able to run more timing and boost with the meth on pump gas. Meth is a great addition to any FI street car. But if you are looking for a track car, go with c-16 and N20 and one hell of a fuel system (I'd just add a standard wet kit 50 shot).

Once nitrous gets into the combustion chambers is just raises cylinder pressure and temps again, which is the opposite of what the meth does.

If this thread isn't beaten to death yet, I'll put in my 2 cents.

I have run the NX spray bar, now I just inject it. The spray bar uses about 1 lb of N20 every 8 seconds, which is a lot of $, for a little cooler intake charge, and a small Hp gain depending on the outside air temp, efficiency of your intercooler, boost level etc. Just inject the N20 if you decide to take that route. A simple single fogger efi, like the NX stage 1 is more than sufficient for what you need. Unless you run a Fast or Accel DFI with a nitrous funtion in it, then you only need a dry kit.

On another note, N20 contains sulphur dioxide as well as nitrous oxide. Neither this, nor C02 should be indiscriminately expelled into the atmosphere; these are greenhouse gasses and contribute to global warming and may be dangerous to the ozone layer as well.

Use meth. It will keep your IATs low, let you run more timing without knock allowing you to make more power, and it is environmentally friendly.
