so basically you can shift up faster, but from what I understand you have to basically be stopped to shift back into 1st.

is this the case?

No, you can downshift. You just have to rev match because the synchronizers are not set up to allow you to slide into gear. A quick blip of the throttle on your downshift will take care of it. It's not like a full built Liberty clutchless, you can still put it in any gear. Sort of like shifting an old Wrangler into gear by rev matching and feeling for it to slide into the next gear.

Thanks for explaining. That's what I was thinking but then a bunch of people said you couldn't so I thought maybe I was thinking of something else.

Not a sponsor and not solicitating. Joe is just making a post regarding the car that he is building to play along in the LS1Tech series.

Not to mention the 'search' feature on that page doesn't work. I typed in a zip-code search for 48025 (Metro Detroit) and it came up with a shop in PA instead of the three or four local shops that are supporting tuners. Weird.

I believe Kevin's trans has a standard input and output shaft. Of course you can upgrade to the Viper stuff. I believe Taner has done that (not proshifted). Also, so that everyone knows, you MUST HOLD IT IN GEAR when racing. When you are driving around under normal load it's fine, but under full tilt load make sure you hold it in place. It's not a big deal because most people do keep their hand on the shifter when racing.

I don't mind rev matching to shift... I normally do that downshifting anyway... Is it really that unstreetable?

It is streetable, just takes 15 minutes to get used to it.

It's called heel/toe, rev match down shifts. It's a basically an old M22 setup then right? Or a NASCAR Jerico tranny. Straight gears and no synchros. Just what I thought. Hey, go drive a dump turck, that'll teach ya how to double clutch A lost art that isn't that hard to master.

Edit: Hell, don't even need to use the clutch. Left foot brake, throttle blip, let the tranny suck the shifter into gear. They really that prone to jumping out of gear?

The gears are still slash cut factory gears. Liberty removes 3 out of every 4 teeth on the synchros and the gears so that the gaps are widened up. This allows a wider window to shift into. But the rest of the concept is the same as just heel-toe down shifting.

Right on. That "wider window" can also make it less streetable, depending on how people define streetable

When you're cruising around, you can get significant tip-in / tip-out clunk since the teeth are floating in a bigger than normal gap.
