Default stock internals and s/c

I'm contemplating picking up either a vortech or a procharger and running ~8 pounds of boost. The car is an 01 SS with stock internals that will not be raced. What's the risk of damaging my engine if I get a dyno tune? Also, is it possible to pick up 100 rwhp without adding headers?

Well, with a GOOD tune you could run 8lbs. I personally would stay around 500rwhp wouldn't try to go over 550rwhp on stock internals There will always be a risk of something breaking though. You should be able to pick up 100 to the wheels without headers no problem. Why don't you forge it, even later on down the road?

While I would like to get forged internals and crank up the boost, I don't want to spend the money. As such, I've set a goal of 450 rwhp.

Too clarify, regardless of the kit, I plan on upgrading the injectors and fuel pump.

450rwhp will be no problem at all. You'll reach that pretty easily.

Will I need to update my pushrods or valve springs if I stick with the stock rev limiter?

7 lbs should do 450 easy, your stock valvesprings are not good past 6200, i'd set the rev limiter at 6 so as not to overrev.

i made 448 with 7 lbs with a vortech and that was thru an automatic.

YES!your first missed shift and you'll bend a few pushrods, maybe screw up some springs and if you particularly lucky bent valves.i was only making about 430 or so on spray with stock everything and managed to not bend but snap a couple pushrods,it can happen that quick.its cheap insurance to get double valve springs and hardened pushrods.you could always get a set of 6.0 liter truck heads that are already assembled with double springs and ti retainers and thatd help plus itd lower your CR,then all you'd need is the pushrods.

I run 12lbs on the stock motor(except valve springs/pushrods).8lbs can be very safe with the right tune/fuelling.
