i'd be happy if they did a 2bar SD for now like the 99-02's and later do the 3 bar

but like i said

I think what would be fair for the 98 guys is if that when you upgrade to a 99 or later PCM and harness that HPT would give you the software upgrade with the 2/3 Bar map for the 99 + > model year. If these guys were buying the product with the realistic possibility of this being supported in the future, than they have Small number ot people are looking for this and (as if HPT needs any more publicity but) would go to show they are serious abou their cust. service (which I think everyone agrees with now anyways).

John, when I inquired the reason given to me wasn't the "small number of 98 cars."

Besides, there's already a fair indication of a good handful of folks here ready to buy right now -- and since all the Painless and GM Performance Parts wiring harnesses are targeted to the 98 PCM, they would also have the attention of a whole lot of hot rod and hybrid motor swap guys. I don't buy into your reasoning one bit.

Boils down to they don't see it being profitable for the amount of "hacking" that it'll take to tap into the 98 PCM's since they are really somewhat different than the 99+ PCM's. Its easier to exclude the minority than to make room for em....been there done that.
But I really got my hopes up for this, I traded in my LS1edit and EFIlive scanner so I could specifically get this feature later on. I had no problems with edit and efilive...but its nice now that I don't have to lug two cables to log and tune the car. But had I known that they'd ditch the 98's altogether I would have saved my cash and stuck with what was working for me already.

I don't really know the economics involved, but you could always check with them. Having seen 99+02 pcms for $150 and engine harnesses for $100-300, I don't see it as being a big deal. I have seen 99-02 pcms for as little as $100. Could always see if they would try 98 hpt for 99+ in special cases. But I'm not the final authority by any means.

Then spend $2,100 and get a BS3 which includes the wideband.

Or get a TSI unit from Mac and run it as a piggyback.

TSI is a piggyback pcm from Australia. I had one and sold it. Only downside is that it uses factory 02 sensors so you might not be able to run leaded gas. Not sure if the MAF would be an issues either.

Fuel tank, Cluster, Wiring harness, and PCM. no thanks, not when it related to a knowledge protection issue, and not a hardware issue.
If it is a problem with it being a difficult task to acomplish, then sure, I understand it not being worth their efforts. But the post over on their site was along the lines of "it will be too easy to steal" then that is something that as a customer I feel let down coming from a company with unencrypted bin files.

for those who dont know mega squirt is a fuel controler that will work with any type of engine. But you have to set it up yourself, and build it yourself, unless you get someone to do it for you.
its very cheap, about $200 if you build it your self. maybe $400 if you buy it pre build.

afterwaying the options, of buying $300 for the 2 bar upgrade, $150 for the EIO, and $500for the base HPT (which i already have) i desided it is going to be cheaper to get mega.

MS:
allows real-time updates
it runs low-z injectors (I think)
it will run 16 injectors
there are separate inputs I believe that could be used to change the tune with a switch, or a boost controller, or control nitrous, or water/alky inj, etc.
I don't think it auto-corrects from a wideband input, but it will log AFR and you can correct real-time as I stated above...it will log a ton of things.

This is not a dig on HPT...I think they have the best tuning solution out there...for 99+ cars. 98's should look into MegaSquirt.

Oh, and I think someone on the board may have a timing control set up built using Ford spark control/coils (EDIC?) on an LS1.

anyone have a link to the MS thing.

so basically its a fuel computer that is piggy backed? Sounds kinda like the older fast systems, would do fuel, and ls1edit would control timing

is that about right?

Yes.

www.megasquirt.info Its open source basically, so theres literally a TON of info to sift through. I'd contact Parish and get with the guy that built and set up his. He knows his stuff.

LOL, I ordered mine about a month ago. I got a preassembled unit from RS-Autosport.com. It shipped yesterday and hopefully I'll have it installed next week.

When I did all of this, I changed the headers to a stepped header, and add the 3.5 Inch cats back on the car, so I am making the 822RWHP again with cats. I will be taking them off shortly to see what the numbers are without them. Again this is all still on 93 Oct.

Thanks
Bryan
