Default Starting Dissemblely

OKguys, it is finally time to start my project with sponsors or not. Here is the frist thing I need help on, how do I get the front nose peice off of my 98 WS6?? Lets get that off first then we can start to take out everything else, then the engine and tranny, which I will be pulling from the top. So how does it come off, the nose piece? I see it is attached by many of those plastic screws that I have no idea to take off, so help me out guys, thanks, I will be taking plenty of pics

the front clip is held on with a ton of thoe plactic pop-top clips, but a screw driver in and they come off.

Then you have 2 screws one on either side, right next to where the headlights are, head lights must be up so you can see these.

then get back under the car, take all that plastic crap off the bottom, look up and on either side, you will see a black somewhat 's' shaped peice of metal there are two screws going straight up take those out on each side, so now you think your done but wait no, there is also a a bolt that goes in from the front of the 's' shaped peice of metal, this one is a complete bitch to get out, once those are out on both sides the front clip should kinda lift off, this sounds like a pain in the ***, and the first time you do it honestly it is
hope that helps

Uhhh, please take no offense from this, but...if you need help figuring out how the nose of the car comes off then you might want to seriously re-think having someone else do the work on the car. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

I'm hoping that maybe you are just a lot more comfortable wrenching on a motor then doing body work type stuff...but if not then I think that you are in for a tough ride.

Good luck!

I agree! We are just asking to save you alot of trouble.
The first time I took the nose off, it took 45 min. Comparing pulling the nose to pulling the engine is like changing oil to rebuilding a tranny.
Good luck again!

you got to start from somewhere.
just dig in and youll figure it out.

the hardest part of getting the nose off is the 7mm bolts on the left and rigt sides on the inside.

My thoughts exactly, sounds kinda scary to me if you can't figure out those little plastic pieces what are you going to do when something that's actually hard confronts you? Not trying to slam but some people are meant for this stuff and some aren't

Ah, I dont necessairly agree with you guys, the first time I took the front cover up it took me forever, I can prolly rebuild a 350 motor faster than I can take the damn front clip off.

im just saying doesnt mean he cant do the other stuff.

Default thanks ed

thanks ed, think about it guys, when did you guys frist learn that stuff?? And yes, an engine is a lot easier to me, I am like 6'6 and weigh close to 300 so i don't like to break things and when I wrok on something delicate like the plastis nose peice, it really worries me that I am accidently going to rip the thing off, lol. So no ofense taken, but I need help guys. I have put it on stand by and on my way back to Little Rock, AR for my nephew, I will post up when I get back and maybe I just need to pm people so everyone won't make fun of me for not understanding everything. BTW how many of guys made above a 32 on your ACT?? Probably a few, but not many, I will learn, just give me time

For the plastic pieces use either a screw driver or somthing to pull the center part out a little bit....and then the rest of the clip pulls straight out. Start off by pulling the 3 on the top of the bumper so you can see how they work.

Basically they go in the hole.....and then you push the center part down and they expand in the hole to hold it in place...That is how they work.

It was easier for me to pull the front wheels and inner fenders....and then getting to the 2 bolts holding the bumper to the fender is much easier.

Also there is a bolt from the front on each side by the headlight that screws the bracket for the bumper into the fender.....the rest is just the bolts along the bottom and those big push connectors on the bottom which act like the 2 on the top only they are bigger.

The bumper is resting on top of molded styrofoam so its probably a good idea to have a friend help. Also don't forget to unplug the wiring harness from the driving lights...the fog lights aren't mounted to the bumper so no need to worry there.

Then just gently pull the part toward the fender down and then lift the bumper off of the styrofoam. Isn't that hard but will take a while.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

And just for conversations sake a high score on the SAT/ACT really doesn't mean anything IMO.....some people study for years to take that test and in the end I've seen some people with high scores that are some of the most clueless people I have ever seen. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks JAM, yea on the ACT, I was just replying to the guy that said I didn't need to be doing this because "it wasn't for everyone". I was making in reference ti my ACT score that if I study something, I can figure it out. I wasn't saying that my ACT score means that I can do anything, lol OK, thanks for the instructions Jam, and Ed thank you to.

just dig into it man. i just pulled my front end apart for the first time and about 45 minutes sounds right. i started from the top and worked my way down. i know what you mean about the plastic clips, but the once you figure out the first one, it's simple. if someone's never seen something like that before, and it's fragile, yeah, you're gonna ask a question or two before doing it. makes sense to me. i first pulled off the parts around the washer resevoire, then the headlights and fog lights, plastic clips, the black plastic pieces around the bottom of the nose area, then you can get to the three 7mm nuts on each side of the bottom underside that attatch it to the fender and the bolt on each side (hardest part imo) next to the headlights that attatch it to the fender there too. easier than i thought it would be.

i tried to remove the nose once and after i pulled the headlights i changed my mind and put it back together. LOL. then one day, i just said whatever i take apart can be put back together, even if i have to ask a friend for help!

later,
Dave

I agree, dig in. I also own a ford and had to rip the tranny out today...never touched a ford before in my life and since Im a GM guy, it's all *** backwords to me...I figured it out... and you'll figure it out. Id get some baggies or jars and label where stuff came from... I'm willing to bet you have extra parts when its done. This is the reason many "modded" cars are worth less, or not much more upon resale... we all know theres a chance those missing parts are in a drawer somewhere...lonely.

If all else fails, a shop can bail ya out. You'll be fine, but I suggest ya snap a few pics along the way.

For the record, I had the exaust, tranny and clutch out in 1 hour... didnt even have a swivel socket. Fords suck, but are easy!!!

This site helped me a lot the first time I pulled my motor. If you read this and feel comfortable with a head swap, then the rest is just unplugging/unbolting the rest of the motor. It's really pretty simple (only goes back one way). I took mine out from the top by just removing the hood (engine and trany).

Either way, this site will help you put everything back together right!

Good luck,
