General Turbo Power Question

Default General Turbo Power Question

Asking this for a local turbo shop that doesn't do much LS1 stuff but put turbos on lots of other types. They want to know if 500 RWHP is do-able on a stock heads/cam/bottom end LS1 car and if it would live very long. The key word here is stock. They seem to think they can fab up the necessary turbo, but would the car need at least a cam or anything else and would it live.

Yes, you can get 500rwhp on a stock car on pump gas as long as it's tuned properly. You don't need a cam or anything. The only thing that you would need is aftermarket valve springs, the stock ones will float.

Depends, yes, they might run into float then again they might not. 777 is right, injectors and TUNE TUNE TUNE!!!! Definately go intercooled too!

Pump and injectors, ~8 psi on a stock motor w/ intercooler will get you there in an M6 without problem.

I ran at that level and higher with good fuel for 24k+ miles before pulling the motor to go w/ a built motor and head/cam. Never had the valve covers off before that. Other than more than normal ring wear for a 40K mile motor everything looked great

Thanks guys. Any tips on what to tune WOT timing and a/f on a 8 psi intercooled setup to make a stock LS1 live?

Keep the timing in the low to mid teens around peak torque (usually about 4800 w/ a stock cam). You can ramp up to high teens almost 20 between peak torque and peak power/fuel cutoff.

Each one's a little different, but that should get you close.
