Easy to install??

alot of import guys run them, just lets the car idle for like a minute or so to let the oil flow through your car to cool the turbo, especially after a wot riun right before you go home, its like a 30 min install

I'm gonna pick one up too, does anybody recommend a certain one? I don't think they are difficult to install, I'm pretty good at wiring stuff.

I had a Greddy turbo timer in my Supra. They offer a plug and play harness for most cars, but if there isn’t one or you don’t want to buy one, its very easy to install- just a few wires that need to be tapped into the ignition wiring. Keep in mind, if you have an aftermarket alarm system that monitors ignition voltage, you will either need to use passive arming, or use a relay to isolate the alarm system from the ignition wiring while the turbo timer is running. Otherwise the turbo timer will trip the alarm system.

As far as the "is it worth it" question, I personally found it very convenient since I daily drove the car and not having to sit in the car was nice, especially when I was running late. If your car is just a weekend car, it’s kinda a toss up.

And like half-n-half said, remote start systems have a 'short run' feature that can be used instead of a turbo timer. If you have a remote start system, I would just recommend using it. I actually ended up removing the turbo timer and using the alarms built in feature. I installed a Viper 791xv in the car and used a relay to isolate the alarm. It worked great about 98% of the time, but every so often the turbo timer wouldn’t 'catch' and the car would shut off normally. Needless to say, it was an annoying glitch.

i would recommend a apex'i tt, the greddy is mainly for imports, and i think they only make harnesses for imports, but i think the apex'i is overall the better unit, its smaller and easier t owire

Spend the money on something more useful. If you are daily driving the car, you aren't going to need a turbo timer because it is doubtful that you are going to do WOT passes on your way to work. After you get off the track, just make a loop around the parking lot and give it time to circulate before parking it. No big deal!

Spend the money on a new duck call. Then you can hook it up to your BOV! Now THAT would be some high quality entertainment

Really depends on the turbos, how they are cooled, and the driver. Personally, I'm not going to bother with a timer. I don't mind sitting in the car for a minute or two while the car calms down.

Cheers,

Mark

Kyle, if you really want that option, get the remote start system. At least you'd be able to start the car and get the A/C going too!

If you still have A/C lol

You can find some less expensive ones on eBay...under $50 that is. They claim to be universal on the ones I saw, so they should work for our cars.
