Default going turbo...

so... i've finally manned up and decided to go the turbo route. i've decided on the pham kit, but i really dont know what else i need to buy. i plan on running stock internals with 6l heads, aiming for about 9.3:1 compression and around 8-9 psi.

first is the fuel system, i've heared alot of different opinions on what size injectors i'll need, aswell as a pump. for those of you running a similar setup, what am i gonna need?

second is cam. i'm running the torquer now so i KNOW that i have to change it. my question is, where do i go? i want to run stock internals for a while, so i cant go too large, but i still want to be making power when i'm not into the boost. what would you say the largest cam i can run with this setup and stock internals will be.

another thing is intake. i have the ls6 right now, but will the fast be a better investment? how much will that effect my fi numbers?

as for an electric cutout in the downpipe, how will this effect things? i was gonna shoot for a magnaflow mullfer to keep it quiet on the street without killing my power, but is a cutout worth it?

this is all i can think of for now, but i'm sure i'll have more. i know that some of you run similar setups, so your help would be great. i know alot of it is in the tune, and i have a good tuner so no worries!

60# injectors and the Walbro 255 pump should work fine for your set up, unless you plan on pushing more. Check out cammotion for suggestions on different cams for your application. You don't need alot of duration and something with a higher LSA would help. Remember, bigger is not always better! The LS6 intake will work just fine. An electric cutout is helpful in more ways than one. Not only can you keep the car quiet on the street, but the cutout will help you gain power at the track.

I'd over-do the fuel system so you only have to do it once. 60# moto's, dual Walbro's, a -8 pickup and feed line to speed inc rails and an adj. FPR, then use the stock feed as a return. MightyMouse runs this setup. OR run a hard line (from a v6 f-body) in the stock clip and use 97 vette rails/regulator (they are return-style). I believe cablebandit runs this set up (and Harlan did as well early on).

I'd run a quiet catback like an SLP dual/dual (sleeper), then use the power cutout to get real boost and make it loud. There are boost/vacuum operated cutouts as well.

I'd use a stock LS6 cam or an LPE cam (GT2-3 or GT3?).

I'm gonna do the Speed Inc. stage 3 fuel system which includes two walboros, yblock, boost activated hobbs switch, two fuel filters, billet rails, and all necessary hoses and fittings. Injectors will be big since I am going all out on the first build so I won't have to re-build the car in 2-3 years.

A cutout is a good idea. At the track you could even do an open downpipe.

Just research on LS1Tech: Zangel , hellraiser, frcefed98, mightymouse, there are a lot more turbo's LS1's on this board. Search is your friend.

Good luck with your build but make sure you research!

thanks for the help guys (and girl ) i actually do plan on running a forged shortblock after about a year, so i do think i should go overkill on the fuel system. I had heared that speed inc makes a killer setup, but what are my other options?

so far i've figured:
gauges and gauge pod
cut out
hooker or magnaflow catback (dont really want to go with d/d, but i'll think about it i do want something quiet)

fuel system (need spacifics, i know about injectors and pump(s) but dont know about lines and rails)

cam- LPE does make some good cams, and a local shop has a 222/222 on a 116, this would be good aswell correct? is there a certain type of lobe seperation i want to look for to maxamize spool/exhaust velocity?

ls6 intake should be fine from what i gathered.

pusher fans for the pham kit

am i missing anything?
