The bottom line is that you NEED a larger turbo. I have a 1999 SS with a 382 stroker and a forged bottom end 9:1 with 60lb injectors. My car makes peak hp at 4400 rpms and starts to immediately die off. I made 538rwhp (12psi) at 4400 rpms and by the time I was at 5500 I was down more than 50hp and steadily falling. I've seen a post on here about a guy who had a relatively stock LS1 with the STS kit and he had a GT70 turbo and started making good power in the 4000 rpm range and it kept making more and more power all the way up until 6000 rpms when they let off. The GT70 won't spool quite a fast as the 60-1 but it makes a TON more power up in the higher rpms where it really matters most. By the way, I just ordered my GT70 and it should be here next Monday which includes a new high volume turbo oil pump, new air filter and larger 4" inlet piping to the turbo. I am trading my old 60-1 in for this GT70 plus $1000 to STS. That 60-1 is really only good for a bone stock LS1 at 6psi. The more you raise the boost over 6psi the quicker it starts falling off in the upper rpms.

1000 + your old turbo = ouch

Forced Inductions has the T70's for 600 bux new + you could sell your old 60-1 for $400.

i had the same turbo but it would run out on 5psi specialy on the highway
Rick swapped free of charge and i told him to just put a biiger backhousing on made all the diff i have dynoed more touqe than anyone i know on 5psi unintercooled with the stock motor and my mph on my ets's shows for the top end 60-1 .96
im the only person i have talked to with this turbo set up I wouldnt go bigger unless you are planing on running 12+psi maybe ill meet up with you this weekend go for a ride and some races

Yeah, maybe. I work on the weekends, but I may go out to Lowes Friday night. PM me if you want to meet up.

I think I've decided to turn down the boost to 6 psi, and tune accordingly. I think I can get more under the curve, even though the peak will be lower. This will have to do until I have the extra dough to upgrade a few things. A 2 week old baby doesn't help the car modding, but hopefully this will happen soon. That being said, I am very happy with progress I'm making.

LOL NYSS Guy, I think cobra8me was talking to me since we both live in Florida but I could be wrong. My car won't have that bigger turbo until next monday and I need to do something about my catalytic converter now because it was cooking pretty good on the way back from lunch and I could even smell it and see some smoke because it was so hot.

I'm in West Palm Beach, so now I'm really confused. Obviously it doesn't take much. Why don't you get rid of those cats?? They won't smell if they ain't there. I have 2 O2 sims if you are interested.

your power drop off is valve springs i had the same problem! I picked up over 200rwhp at 6000rpm with manly springs! and i had the sts 60-1 turbo and that was at 6psi
