Default To BOV or not to BOV

John at Phamspeed indicated that a BOV would not be nearly as critical with my automatic. What do you guys think. Do you think it is a good idea? This car will have a th400.

I'd say if you do a lot of street driving (boosting and letting off during boost), then I'd get one just to make your turbos happy.

With an auto you don't lose boost during shifts like you would in a manual. The throttle blade doesnt close when the auto shifts (obviously), so the 'backing up' of boost does not become near as much of a problem as with a manual. However, when you do let off the throttle and you are into the boost, the pressure will have no where to go, so a BOV is still somewhat worthwhile in an auto. Depends on how long you want the turbo to last I guess.

I know Mike Brown's new setup on his CE T/A has a BOV (Procharger BOV I believe) and he is running a TH400 as well.

Get a BOV and call it a day. No need to cheap out when you're doing everything else right it seems.

Basically Sean said in one sentence, what I was trying to convey in several paragraphs.

I would think a Tial 50mm BOV would be a good bang for the buck BOV...

Bang for the buck is number one. I will deal with whatever sound it makes just as long as It does the job. Actually, louder is probably better, ha ha. As far as the boost I'm not sure what the 76 gts will be capable of on a 408 with a very good flowing top end (heads intake tb). Lets say around 16 or so. I may get greedy and turn it up to 20 with some race gas on very rare track day occasions.

I personally like the sound of the Tial 50mm. I went for a ride in an STS car and i believe he has the same one. I will be using it for my 383 LT1 Precision T76 GTQ @ 15psi.

Quiet is Tial, and louder is the Turbosmart megasonic. Both are priced around the same...
