Default Pro 5.0 power target

Considering that in their base design, the Gen.III engines are superior to the 5.0 and 5.8 Fords. However, they(5.0,5.8) have overcome the obstacles and as everyone knows they are making a ton of power and running very good ET's. What specific hurdles are the blown Gen. III's going to have to overcome to get to the levels of pro 5.0. I'm only familiar with a couple of the issues that have created a learing curve. Could someone more in touch with the extremes of this educate me! Thank you!

i dont see power being a issue, all the gen 3 guys just have to put it in a suspension that hooks to have quick enough time, as in fourlink
im not sure of the issues the ford guys have, do they push some water when making over 1500hp?

just give it a little bit more time, there catching up in a hurry .

Yeah, I know they have been around a while. Seems the last time I checked some of the pro 5.0 guys were turning around 2200fwhp under 400ci's. Am I wrong?

i am not sure, but what does the rest of thier setup consist of? sheet metal intakes? what kind of CFM on the heads?

i beleive Kurt at W2W has a twin turbo motor making quite a bit of power using a cast manifold and traditional cathedral port head.

Very true, alot of the stuff is custom fab. but I believe Hardcores 7 sec. T/A had several custom parts on it also. SM intake, belt driven distributor and from what I could tell it was c5r based. I just wandered what limits have been hit with production based castings (as in ls1,ls6 and ls2). Again, I could be wrong here, but it seems I recall reading that the factory head offerings has decks that were to thin for excessive boost or horsepower, is that correct??

and there also using a motor that has been around since the 1950's.

Small block chevy guys are keeping up with them just fine, thats a more applicable comparrison.

the LS1 is catching up, its just that its alot of cash, most people who want to drop 100k on a car are usually going to work on something that is proven, hence the 5.0

Actually its really called Pro, used to be called pro5.0, my bad. Generally speaking 7.0's all the way down to 6.60sh, depending on the combo. I'm not sure about the NMRA but FFW's weight breaks are pretty generous but they have really changed their format over the last couple of years. (i.e. remove the cubic inch limitation)
from FFW website for pro category:

2200 pounds...........Nitrous................580 cubic inches, any block
2400 pounds...........Nitrous................740 cubic inches, any block
2500 pounds...........Nitrous................816 cubic inches, any block
2200 pounds.....Supercharger or Turbo..310 cubic inches, any block
2500 pounds.....Supercharger or Turbo..Windsor type small block only
2775 pounds.....Supercharger or Turbo..500 cubic inches, any block
2350 pounds........Naturally aspirated....816 cubic inches, any block

again, the NMRA would be different. But that will give you an idea.

Very true, I just cut my teeth on SBF's before I changed my ways. I'm just not familiar with any Gen. 1 SBC running in the same format as the SBF guys. Seems every GM turbo motor I see ends up being a big block of some sort. Again, learning here

I think the mph for 6.70's is more like 205 , 206, 20X.
