Default First start up with turbo!

On the first start up with your turbo do you need to poor some oil in the turbo or will it pull the oil from the block quick enough to not damage the turbo.

here is how i normaly go about that...i leave the turbo plumbing dicontected from the compressor side of the turbo (inlet and outlet) and carefuly stuff a clean rag in the turbo to keep it from turning (so long as you don't rev it up, it should not turn) OR if you have someone else there with you, i stick a couple of fingers in there to keep it from turning (at idle) DO NOT REV THE ENGINE...PERIOD!!!, and give the engine about 20 seconds to get good oil circulation everywhere, then remove rag/fingers and replace all plumbimg.

hope i made sense

WTF, you have someone put their fingers in and hold the blades?

I think it's fine to start it up. It's not like there's oil in there when you start the car after it's been sitting for a day anyway.

like i said DO NOT REV THE ENGINE ..the turbo will barley move if it all at idle a finger is plenty to keep it from turning so long as the throttle man does not wick the throttle (common sense here guys)

Makes perfect sense to me, those things won't move under light throttle.

Now, don't do that with a supercharger

I think I'd have to go to Home Depot and get a $2 wood dowel rod or something before I stuck my fingers in there anyway.

I didn't mean jam the thing in there or anything just let the blades rest against it. If the wheel was going to spin hard enough to bend a compressor wheel up I'd rather it do it against a wood dowel than my finger.

I'm just messing with ya man.

Just crank it up. The oil pressure will get to the center section quickly.

Crank the motor and build pressure...call it a day.

Fingers are a bad idea especially on vehicles that have IAC motors. What if that motor messes up and all of the sudden opens the IAC as far as it can. Will it rev much higher? No...but it might be enough to do some damage to your fingers.

The crank it over a few times...that will build pressure.

It really only takes a second to get oil to the turbo as most kits get the oil right off the top of the filter. There really is nothign to worry about. Especially if you have a ball bearing turbo as they use nearly no oil. GL man

why cant you just put some oil in the turbo before you put the feed line on, sounds like an easier solution if your worried about it before doing something stupid and chopping off your fingers.
