Default Blew right through converter..which to get now

Mods are stock shortblock with heads, cam(F7), exhaust, fmic, D1SC. Making about 6-650 at the crank probably. I have a st3500 that I bought before all this went in and has about 5-6000 easy miles on it but I went right through it. The guys at Yank said I need a new one since this is not for such high power. I am not against Yank but if there is a more affordable alternative that will work just as good I may think about getting it. Right now I am between Yank and Precision(no idea which one) but am open to all.

My Yank T400 converter held 738rwhp no problem. I have a TCT converter now that I got from Tom@ls1speed.com.

I am not sure if I want either a Yank SC3000, Yank PYE34 or 3600, a Vig(no idea which one), or give Fuddle a shot. This is mostly a street car but with the mods I have eventually either a FLP or Dr. Evil tranny will work its way in. I don't expect the converter to be cheap but if I can get one for 650-700 that works just as good as the 1000 dollar one why not get the cheaper one. This also means I have a converter for sale.

so your converter won't hold at all? I have a TCI 3800 and she's holding just fine but I think the best converter for holding would be the Vig multidisc.

a cheap alternative would be to see if Yank can tighten that converter up and rebuild it.

It drives fine but when he hits it to make a run on the dyno it would hold for a split second then flash to the limiter. I called Yank and they were insistant that it won't hold that much power. I guess the st3500 is more for bolt ons maybe a heads, cam setup. I am trying to decide if I want to spend the money for a Yank or get a Vig multidisc. I have also pmed Fuddle but am not sure since they are fairly new, but the prices are better. I know you get what you pay for but can you get a similar product for less, sure. I am planning on getting a later but money is tight now so I am going to just do vert now.

Hey,

I have the same problem with my TCI SF, blowing right through it at WOT on the dyno... I am going with a custom-built Continental converter.

Once I get my crank pinned to hold the MMS pulley still behind the crank bolt and get a converter in that will hold the power, I'm hoping for 600rwhp, maybe 650rwhp on a 35 wet shot.

Let us know how it works out...

I want to get a Fuddle because of the price and I really have not heard any bad things about them. But, I am leary of a newer cheaper product. I know Yanks are good but expensive and since I have no idea which Vig would be good I have no idea how much they are. I have emailed Precision but have not heard back yet. I have also emailed Speed Inc since they sell both to see what they think.

A Vig 3200 or 3600 should be good for you.

Bad 30th, love that rollbar on your car, what kind of times does she pull?

Call Vig...they have much experience with blown cars. Tell them what you're looking for. I'm running a Vig number 4 pump, turbo stator multi disk and love it.

When it was 5.3L heads/cam it went 12.6@110 at 3800# raceweight on a 1.8 60'. (Heavy and slow !).

I'm shooting for low 11's/high 10's on the new 8# P1SC/71cc heads setup, haven't gotten it dialed in yet since the recent install. (Need to pin the crank and put in a converter that will hold the power). Should have it all together in a few weeks. Thanks for askin'.

My Vig held close to 550. Hopefully it will hold over 600
