If your blower doesn't have any boost when you punch it then something is wrong - maybe you need a smaller blower. My Powerdyne had 3 psi at 3000 RPM and ramped up to seven. Unless you are running an F2R Procharger, you should have boost as soon as you punch it. The Eaton on my GTP gives me near full boost as soon as I nail it with a stock convertor.

Again, misinfo about angie's car. Junk tranny equals bad ET's...not because the sts kit doesnt work.

S/C wont touch the tq that sts cars have, no belt slippage issues, quick boost changes, quick upgrade to a T70 if they want (which outperformed the D1 in Purevil's car).

Yeah, you have 3psi by 3k, but sts base kit will have full boost by 3000-3400. I'd take full boost over 3psi by 3k.

Its useless comparing N/A, nitrous, SC, front mount, rearmount. All make power and perform...lots depend on the setup of the car.

Wow... And to think I started the original thread. Never knew it would turn into this. For those that are talking about hardcore setups, I NEVER intended to make my car a hardcore setup. It's my DD. The price of this kit is in my budget. Hell I can get the kit with every accessory for my budget. I'm comparing that to other options in the under $5k catagory. I'm talking EVERYTHING for under $5k. Not just a blower. As for a stall, I already planned on purchasing one. I haven't done so simply because I want my modifications planned out so I can purchase the ideal stall.

Heads/cam/nitrous are really cool in my opinion. Unfortunately nitrous has to be filled. And I don't know if I can pull of a head/cam swap. But I know I can do a STS install.

Hey man, it's your money! Buy what you want! It seems like you're set on the STS for a variety of reasons.. it fits well into your requirements and expectations for an FI setup. AS LONG AS YOU ARE SURE THIS IS ALL YOU WANT OUT OF IT, you'll be fine!! The STS kit does get the job done... but also has it's limitations, just like any other system whether the limitations are performance, price or downtime!

*Just make sure what you have stated below is all you want out of an FI system! Think it through!!

We know your oponion and it ins't needed here.

Now for the question I think the origional thread starter was trying to ask.

Lets start off with a stock 346 and the bottom end is going to stay stock.
We have somewhere in the neighbor hood of 4500-5500 dollars to spend.
Looking at our options we have STS, Procharger, vortech, PhamSpeed and whatever other FI setup offered in a similar price range.
We want to keep 100% of the electronic's and AC. Want a Daily Driver.
With the price of the STS kit you can buy it (3899), have it installed(300-400 bucks), tuned(500), and still have money for injectors fuel pump and a FMIC.
When you go SUPERCHARGED you now get a 5000 dollar setup plus you get to buy headers, Y pipe, exhaust, install is 2x as much and still need a tune.
The PTK kit is 4800 bucks intercooled and comes minus the Turbo, so that is out of the question.
So in all reality the STS is priced damn well and works.
From T Byrne. http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ls1...hargercat.html
So for the budget minded folks what is wrong with the STS kit?

Lets take it one more step.
lets say you mommy and daddy were gonna buy you a Turbo for your car but it had to be a basic kit and no more boost then what a stock shortblock LS1 can handle safely. (Mommy dosen't want the car to blow up) Any kit you want that is a normal production setup. You can upgrade the STS to a larger turbo, or you could buy a different kit all together. Budget is no consern but all the other golas are still inplace as far as Daily driver, AC etc.
A FMIC is okay, bigger injectors and fuel pump, plus a tune, but for now cam stays the same, and heads stay stock.
Now what direction do you go?
How much better are other FI setup's then the STS when you have the goals above as a MUST?
Debate #2.

The original reason for my post was to help me decide if the kit would fit my needs properly. Nothing is set in stone. And I still appreciate peoples (educated) input

I'm alone on this board because no one else has spoken up. Not every STS owner in the world lurks in the LS1tech FI section. Navy refers to my car's color NBM. Also seamen have nothing to semen. Naaahh... you're really not that funny . Leave my trailer out of this, its done nothing to you.

It sucks that this thread turned into a bunch of garbage, however, I just want my fellow LS1 owners to know that STS isn't everything its cracked up to be. That's okay it's your money, but don't say I didn't tell you so. Does it make power? Yes, although it's crude and could use a lot of improvement.

Again,
Power - Yes
Quality - No way

You know what's really funny about this thread is that when you go to the LS1GTO forums the guys there claim that the STS kit is the serious "race" kit and the Maggie and Procharger are the conservative kits. 4,000 pound GTOs are running mid 10s with STS kits so those guys there think it's the high speed high stakes kit.

Remember that this forum is not reality so go test drive what your interested in and do what you like.

When I go from 80 in Atlanta to 110 in Laredo, it feels like someone tied a trailer to my ride.
He dynoed 492rwhp with 10psi, headers and a cam when it was 86 degrees out, not 110 degrees out.

Even when it is 110 degrees out you don't lose more than 20rwhp N/A, I know, I live somewhere hotter than Vegas and have dynoed my car in every extreme possible....and you are saying cars lose 50rwhp dynoing in 110 degree weather? I don't think so. And it's only 110 degrees in vegas a handful of days during the summer, not every day.

Sorry, but your opinions are highly exaggerated.

id have to agree w/ him i think those numbers are a tad low for 10#s....people with STS kits dyno that with less psi.
bryan at Race Prep did over 450rwhp on a cam only STS at 6#s

Well said and even directed at me I cant and wont bash anything you wrote.
I am a Nitrous guy.
I run NA setup and nitrous.
I sold my incon stage 2 TT a couple years ago to run more nitrous. I am however playing around in the trubo field for my 3rd ls1. One is a big Cubic inch Nitrous can with a T400, cage, 12 bolt, T brake etc. The other is currently Dead with no motor or trans.
I am just exploring options for my daily driver.

After re-reading this thread, I don't know what to say. I started this whole thing in hopes of helping me make my mind up. Yeah I understand it's MY money. But hell I want the biggest bang-for-a-buck. Who doesn't? I have a budget of $5k, and I wanted to make my car the fastest (without sacrificing ANYTHING) as possible.

I expected the kit to be like doing headers or something.

Navy, thats one of your quotes from an above post. No wonder you were disappointed. You had high expectation. This kit is not something GM would necessarily offer the general public off the shelf, but in this world of mods and fabrication many of us live in, its at least respectable. I did NOT find any quality issues, certainly not with the harness and pumps that were supplied by STS. As for me and stock kits, yes have installed and dealt with several. I understand why you werent happy, but I always look at every project and say..has anyone built anything to make this project easier. In this case i think STS did a pretty good job setting up most people to succeed.
Like adding a set of headers it is not.

You certainly had issues it seems, but on the ones I was around, it was mostly smooth sailing with a lil fab here and there... but I guess Im better prepared for that.

Understood. Turbo is the only way to go when you're talking FI IMO.
