LS1 Z28 DIY Build - Pics
This was originally a DIY rear mount. My Holset H2D was way too big for a rear mount, so I moved it last weekend. Here is the result after the sparks and dust settled in my garage.
I get full boost in 1st now, and I see full boost as soon as 2800 RPM.
Mocking it up
Exhaust feed pipes
Homemade Y-pipe - wastegate mounted
Who says there's no room under the hood of an F-Body? Turbo is in front of the radiator. So far no temperature problems!
DIY downpipe flange for my Holset bolt-on housing.
I retained the scavenge pump from the rear mount.
Plenty of room.
Fits under the hood.

Nice job man
It keeps the stock fans which is nice to see
Couple of questions for you:
1) What are you going to do about the front support?
2) I am assuming you'll be running an alky/water kit?
3) what manifolds did you use?
4) Any plans for heat wrap or turbo blanket?

Def. looking into the turbo blanket. The temp. seems to be ok under normal driving and bursts to full boost. I run an alky injection kit, so no intercooler.
I used the stock headers and ran j-bends up to the turbo.
As far as the clearance, speed bumps are not a problem, but high speed braking on bumpy roads is not an option as I found out. I need to raise the pipes a little bit higher against the K-member.
edit: I've had the front support off for almost a year now. I don't notice much difference in the handling.

Sandman - The wheel sizes vary for both turbos. My H2D is around 66mm. I know some HX40s are around 61mm. The HX40 is good for about 550 - 575 hp. I've heard that the H2D is good for more.
