that doesnt make any sense. why would the heat matter in terms of the intercooler? air/water would cool better than air/air and you could feasibly put it just about anywhere (within reason)

as a daily driver car, im not gonna be carrying an ice bucket with me to fill it up with ice every 10 minutes in normal weather. out here its 115+ almost everyday during the summer.

a2w is best suited for race only applications. i plan on driving the car 98% of the time on the street.

A2W with a nice heat exchanger on the return and you have the best of both worlds.

Water transfers heat better than air. Just like steel transfers heat better than plastic. Put your hand on a window in the winter time and you'll see how different materials transfer heat 'differently.' The window will feel cold even though if you use an infared thermometer it will show up as the same temperature as the rest of the room. It is the same temp, but it's transferring heat out of your hand faster than the air in the room and therefore causes your hand to feel 'cold.'

So with an a2w intercooler, you are now using water to transfer heat instead of just the movement of air around the cooler (a2a), but on the return side of the water to air intercooler system, you put a heat exhanger (which works like a radiator) and the heat that the water picks up will then transfer to the surrounding air by having a fan hooked on it or by having it in the stream of air (like your radiator). When you are at the track, you can throw in the ice-water and get very low (lower than ambient) inlet temps and then when you are driving on the street with ambient temp water, you can then use the water to transfer the heat from the inlet charge, and then you can remove that heat with the heat exhanger that is on the return to the water tank.

It's the best of both worlds in my opinion...you still need a heat exchanger, but you can daisy chain a few small ones with their own fans and that is supposed to work pretty good. That is what I'm doing with my twin w2a intercooler setup.

That was a really good explanation. Most people on this board swear by the a2a intercooler.

I run an air/water cooler and I put about 20K miles a year on my setup. luke warm tap water cools the air just as good as a cool night and better than air on a warm day, and with a properly sized heat exchanger and a big (3+ gallon) resevoir the system works fine on the street.

sweet!

you could do two things. either :

1. you can email them to me at alanskora@hotmail.com

2. if you go to www.imageshack.us you can host them for free.

all you have to do to host them is make sure you have the pics saved on the <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=31&k=hard%20drive" onmouseover="window.status='hard drive'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">hard drive</a>, click browse, then find the folder they are saved in. if the files are over 1024 kb's it wont host it, so make sure to :

1. save them as a jpeg, and if its still too large, copy and paste it into ms paint, and then click image>strech/skew and then just change the % of the size until its small enough to fit within imageshack.us then you can host it.

id really appreciate anything you could get, im starting to get antsy! i wonder if the front fascia is on yet... hmmmmmm

That is what is going to cause the overheating problem combined with restricted radiator airflow.

I have seen it alot with FMIC and closed nose cars.

I have done a FEW turbocars.

Even FMIC's the same width and 1/2 that height will cause it.

Aluminum radiators and high CFM electric fans help. Ultimately the best results come from hood venting. The opposite of the domestically popular cowl induction... Get air out the backside of the radiator so more wants in on the front.

Yep. A heat exchanger for a system like that that would put the FMIC to shame would block ALOT less airflow. It would also be alot less heartache should some road trash bang it up.

Told ya.

MightyMouse (9's with a 6 speed daily driver...I think its acutally his only car) is running an A/W with a heat exchanger as recommened to you. its a small precision unit and he never even puts ice in the tank.
