Question ATI owners: opinions please..

Hey guys how's it going? I was just curious to see how all of you liked your ATI kits. I am hoping to go F.I. soon but I am not quite sure yet. MY goal is to have a reliable, daily driver with 450-500 rwhp. Is this the route I should take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just fine.I like my ATI.450 to 500 hp is doable even on a stock bottom end.Plenty of guys including me are evidence of that. Just dont drive the total **** out of it 24/7.

I guess I will be the odd man out. My ATI kit has been a pain in the *** since day one. I took it all off yesterday. I tried to do it cheap, but to no prevail. If you want to go ATI, do it right from the beginning, which means spending a lot of extra dough. SDCE 8-rib and a front mount intercooler are a must.

My kit is for sale if you are interested.

The non spring tensioned belt set up sucks, without the spring tensioner the gears in the head unit will clatter against each other from the bouncing of the belt. Every time I drove my car people would ask what was wrong with the motor, not good on belts ither. I went with the SDCE set up, they make a good product but they have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Like stated before,Opt for the D-1SC upgrade or you will regret it later, it will do fine on a stock motor. Its a couple of hundred to upgrade when ordering the kit but $1200 to send the head unit back and have it upgraded.
Also, the supplied bypass valve was not sufficient for my car, the head unit was being pressurized and leaking oil everywhere. I went with a Tial 50 and the problem was fixed.

They all have there pros and cons, these are the only complaints I have.

The D-1SC uses the same housing as the P-1SC does, only the internals are different. Bob

At eights pounds of boost, we have never had any problems with the stock ATI ProCharger eight rib kits. It is only when we up the boost to the 14+ psi range do we ever encounter any of the problems mentioned here. Maybe we have just been lucky, although we have installed countless ATI ProCharger kits. Going on about 6000k miles and not a problem. I am running the eight rib setup, as well. I would look into the newer thicker intercoolers though, vs a front mount 1st if you are going to install on a T/A.
Dont know much about them.

Hawk, got any pics of your custom airbox? I have a slight concern with the ati filter placement. Also wondering about what type of tuning you all have done to your cars. Bob told me that the supplied predator tune would work on my stock car but if I added headers etc. that I would need custom tuning.

Thanks Again Guys.

Jeremy Here are a few shots, still stock filter and stock location with clean fresh ram air off of the hood. As for tuning I would invest in a HP Tuners or Ls1 Edit, EFI Live. Your allways going to need to change something, and with the predator you will not have that easy option to change and make adjustments at your finger tips. Or you can leave it up to who ever dose your custom tune. But than if you need to make any minor changes you need to go back to them.

Did you fab the inlet also and, if so, do you have any idea how much better it flows than the ATI hat inlet?

Thanks

Yes I did, that is a tough one cant tell you how it flows, but is must do ok. As you can see my Hp & Tq are very good, and this was with 95deg air in the dyno room, @ 5200'. Stock motor

I am currently designing a new inlet hat up for a buddys car, he is still using stock set up.. But wants to get a way from the crappy plastic hat.

Like stated earlier, you wont have to worry about slipping with the 8 rib set up that comes with the D-1SC untill agressive boost levels Although you may get the gear rattle I mentioned above without the spring tensioner.

SDCE sucks, my car was down for four months waiting on them. I actually came really close to buying a plane ticket over my dealing with them, all it would have taken was a couple of more days. I lost count of the ignored/unreturned phone calls and BS excuses, it had reached the point that I thought I had been scammed out of my money.

618HAWK: Keep us posted on the development of the inlet hat, anything that flows better than the ATI setup means instant boost increase.

Jeremiah: Sorry to hear of your bad experience. You are the first person I have heard of that has had a problem with SDCE. My dealings with them have been all positive; they have been prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and always ready with sound advise and plain common sense. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get them on the phone, but that has just been because they are so busy. Care to elaborate on your experience so others might be aware?

Thanks
