Default Will I need a different MAP sensor?

I am still trying to learn about the forced indcution stuff. I can not find out if I have to switch to a different MAP sensor from stock immediately or not. Does it just depend on the amount of boost you are runnning or does the tuning tool come into play as well? I am planning on running anywhere from 15-20 pounds of boost, but I have no idea where I am going to start out at with the new motor and F1. I am also still undecided on who I am going to get to tune it as well.

Any help?

Yes, you will need to change your MAP sensor right away. Why 15-20 psi? Set your goal for x amount of power not x amount of boost. Boost is resistance to airflow and a poor benchmark for power creation. You can shove a potato up your exhaust and make 20 psi, but you won't make any power. High boost is stessful on everything. Aim for high flow, lower boost; you will make more power and it will live longer.

Well, I have no idea how much I will be running out of the box. My ultimate goal is 800rwhp on pump gas. The engine is going to be 8:1 compression using ET performance 225 heads, exhausting through Kooks 1 7/8"-2" headers and into a 3" X-pipe.

My engine is being built to withstand about 20 pounds of boost. I am going with Diamond pistons, Callies rods w/ARP bolts and ARP studs with billet main caps.

I am new at this, as I am sure it shows, but I don't know what to expect from this combination and have no idea how much boost I will end up with the first time I open it up. I have heard about the amount of boost being determined by the effeiciency of the flow of the engine, but I do not know how efficient it is going to be or what pulley to start with.

If your using the stock PCM w/ HP tuners or LS1Edit and keeping the MAF in the system you don't need to do anything with the MAP sensor.

If you convert to Speed density with HPT, you'll need the appropriate MAP at that time.

on a 408, you won't need 20 psi to get you power goals. Pump fuel will be interesting though

Is there any benefit to running speed density? Easier/harder to tune?

it provides a way to measure more air flow restriction than a stock maf, for a racecar, i don't see a big problem with it. But a true daily driver, there is a reason GM put a maf and a map on the car from the factory, just my $0.02

But my opinions are in the minority on this board.
