Default turbo catback?

I plan on putting a cutout in the downpipe, so I can run a catback to keep things tame. I know a turbo quiets things down a bit, but how quiet? Quieter than stock? Anyway, what catback are you turbo guys rinnung (if any) and how do you like it? I was thinking something like hooker or magnaflow, maybe gmmg. I really dont know what would sound good.

I would never run any mufflers with a turbo. They sound like V6's IMO of the ones I've heard. I'd run a Loudmouth or some other bullet.

yes, rear mount setup takes place of the catback.

So catbacks sound shitty on turbo cars? I've honestly never heard one. How loud would it be with LM or another similar exhaust? Maybe borlamouth? I have TD's now and they are loud, so I wanted something a little stealthy. how loud is a turbo car without any catback or muffler?

straight through catbacks like slp 2 on the left, random technology, or make your own with some dynomax or borla bullet mufflers.

i dont think mine sounds like a v6, but if it did.. that would be sweet!

theres a dyno vid of my car with a slp catback in my homepage

you're going to use a cutout right? crapmaster bogs down a stock car, i couldnt imagine what it would do to a turbo car.

2OTL is a pretty nice system, but I want dual tips. I have the dumps now and I just miss having those nice tips out there. How loud is your car?

Turbo V8 cars with a muffler sound like v6's???? I beg to differ, my car sounds no different with a turbo and my magnaflow catback as it did with the D1-sc, its a tad bit quiter but thats about it. It still has a very mean LS1 V8 rumble at idle, cruising and WOT....

Do NOT run a chambered type muffler with a turbo, that is no good.

Love it Nice deep throaty rumble and moderately loud when cruising around but not doesn't wear on you like a LM would.

Here is the car at idle with the magnaflow

http://home.comcast.net/~jsbird1998/turboidle.mp4

here is a lil cruise with it too

http://home.comcast.net/~jsbird1998/turbocruise2.mp4

Right click em, and save em...also once they are DL to your computer you will have to remove the .txt at the end of the file name...don't know why that gets added

I have plans go get a new muffler evenualy, but its pretty low on the priority list. I dont want just a bullet, and a 4" staight through muffler pretty much leaves borla at like $200

need to get some other things taken care of before I worry about that.

I've heard your set-up here, and it sounds nice. I've heard some others that sound like Stock LS1 exhaust with added turbo spool. It's all subjective with what each person likes.

When I said "...any muffler," I should have specified really restrictive and chambered-style.

I bought a V8, so I want it to be loud.

That's just me. Anyway, listen to the typical STS with restrictive cat-backs (The Camaro on their site, for instance) if you want to hear Stock LS1 exhaust sound with the spool. That's what I'm talking about. Nasty.

Turbo+restrictive cat-back=too much sound being muffled. A nice bullet style or a pair, Dyno or the Borlas, still has my vote for a turbo'd LS1.

If its all subjective huh? Turbo V8 sounds like a V8 no matter how you cut it. An STS kit? Wow, not a good example. An STS doesn't run a "cat back"...it (the turbo) is in place of where the muffler would be, so that comparison is null and void. Its the reason why its so loud and you can hear that tiny T61-67 spool so loudly and fast as well, its outlet is but a few feet to the back of the car. Can't say "I have a borla catback on my STS car"...why? the borla muffler and borla sound got ditched with the addition of the STS kit.

Can't have a stock LS1 sound meaning stock LS1 with stock muffler, without the factory muffler....remember STS kit replaces the stock muffler:wink:

MM put down insane power through a "cat back" SLP 2otl exhaust, restrictive?? I wouldn't say too restrictive....he put down damn near 900rwhp with it.

I'm running the magnaflow, which is two open pipes running through a "muffler" on both exhaust pipes, restrictive...not at all.

If you are going for numbers on the dyno or track go open down pipe and bypass all restriction

are you going to run a cutout or does the magnaflow flow to the point where you wont need one?

I did say BEFORE:

When I said "...any muffler," I should have specified really restrictive and chambered-style
With these it will sound bad, you yourself agree. I corrected my own self previously, thank you.

You said,

Can't have a stock LS1 sound meaning stock LS1 with stock muffler, without the factory muffler....remember STS kit replaces the stock muffler:wink:
BUT I DID say:

I've heard some others that sound like Stock LS1 exhaust with added turbo spool. It's all subjective with what each person likes
I didn't say Exactly. I said "like." How is like a Stock exhaust? Answer: it's low, restricted volume. I thought that was common sense. Once again, IMO.

STS was just an example of the sound I was describing. I made a mistake referring to them having cat-backs. Big whoop. You corrcted me on STS knowledge. Wow. I don't know too much about the STS systems, don't care to. I was referring to the SOUND as an example. I wouldn't pretend to know about them. I heard a Vette here once with Twin Turbo's, front-mount, that sounded too quiet, FOR ME. There... another example with no mistakes. It's the EPP one I believe. A nice sounding one? I like the Force-Fed-Fabrications prototype kit vid around this Forced Induction forum with the Bright Red TA and the head unit where the battery is running 10 psi. I would like to know what exhaust that was.

I'm posting what I would do for a catback, just like you can.

Oh:
MM put down insane power through a "cat back" SLP 2otl exhaust, restrictive?? I wouldn't say too restrictive....he put down damn near 900rwhp with it.
Who the hell is talking about HP? When I said restrictive, I'm talking about SOUND. I thought that was obvious, too. If I read correctly, the original post was referring to SOUND for a catback choice, not dyno-numbers. You could talk about dyno #'s, you could talk about tight neck-collars, who cares? This thread was about SOUND, and I said restricitve. Can this thread move on to posts about nice sounding cat-backs? BTW, a wink is like this and not . Here, I'll give ya one:

I just heard yours, sounds NICE. However, I like exhaust sounds to the max, so I'd probably go louder, though.

I said a while ago:

I'd run a Loudmouth or some other bullet.
Just like you said, some bullet mufflers. V6 sound? One of my friends has a wannabe SS (LS1, though, he just has an SS hood) with Flowmasters. His car sounds almost as quiet as a Stock LS1. That's my "V6" sound. It's an exagerration for the sake of example. IMO, Stock LS1's sound horrible. I imagine adding a turbo coupled with flowmasters... I don't think that will sound any good. The sound might be great, just not loud enough. Just my OPINION.

Your car will sound great, man, it will just quiet down a bit after the turbo, too much for me. But, if I had them, like you, I'd do exactly the same.
