Question Procharger sound

Does the procharger make loud supercharger sound or is it pretty quite, just wondering because I want something stealthy, or does the sound depend on the amount of boost?

Procharger is loud. Use the search tool and you will find sound clips. Its definitely not stealthy.

You will hear an ATI ProCharger, although the sound isn't so loud that it will drive you nuts. It does seem to keep the deer away though... Bob

I do not think its loud. I do hear it. However the fact of the matter is I always get asked by strangers if the car is supercharged. So I guesss it is audible to the general public (just kidding).

He is maxing out the two intercoolers on 13lbs; he has to get a large front mount so he can put the 17lb pulley on.

I love the sound of the Procharger. I really miss it since taking it off. It is most definitly not stealthy at idle, but at WOT is sounds like a normal motor. Turbo on the other hand os opposite, IMO. If you want stealth, you want turbo.

I heard a Procharger on a Marauder at the track a few months ago, definitly not stealthy. You could hear it clearly at idle, and across the pits, it was unmistakable when he was leaving the line.

should my stock bottom end hold up to a D1SC with a good tune, running the pulley that is sold with the kit?

The pulley that is sold with the kit all depends on how much boost you want to make. When I sell an ATI ProCharger, I find out whether the car has headers and exhaust, cam, heads, etc, as this all plays into the size of the blower pulley, along with how much boost the customer wants to see.
For instance, say you have an ATI ProCharger on a bone stock engine, making 8 psi of boost. Now you decide to add headers and a cat back. Suddenly that 8 psi of boost is now only 6 to 6 1/2 psi, as the system is more efficient. Now you need to go to a smaller blower pulley and a shorter belt to regain the lost boost. Once this is done the car would be considerably quicker than before, and the tune should also be checked.
With the efficient air to air intercoolers on the ATI ProChargers, I normally recommend setting the boost up for 8 psi. On a Mustang Chassis dyno such as what I have, 8 psi of boost on a F Body with headers and exhaust would give you 450 rwhp. (Normally we see 310 rwhp with this combo prior to adding the ATI ProCharger) This would be close to 500 rwhp on the overly enthusiastic Dynojet dynos.
Getting back to your question. The stock bottom end will hold up just fine at this boost level. On my Mustang Chassis Dyno I see 500 rwhp as the limit to the stock pistons. You could add a camshaft to your combo and still be safe, provided you get a good tune. Hopefully this helps. Bob
