Why does Vortech get such a bad rap??
Why does Vortech get such a bad rap?? I was wondering why the vortech superchargers got such a bad rap?? From what Ive read, it sounds like its the oil feed line and thats about it. How does for instance the V9 SQ rate against the procharger P1SC, powerwise and efficiency? I understand the P1SC puts out 1200 cfm but isnt that because its got to push all that air through two intercoolers and all that piping whereas the vortech goes through the aftercooler and basically right to the tb?
Their base kit for the F body, is THE BEST designed and engineered blower kit out there.
THe ATI kit was slapped together it looks like. The vortech kit is a little expensive. but their hard parts are second to none I would say

They need to offer higher flowing head units like ATI does. One of the things people look for before purchasing is how fast will it go. The quickest D1SC's are probably a second faster than the quickest G-trim's. If they offered the S & T trim and maybe even the YSi they would sell alot more kits (they will all fit in the same mounting place). They need to keep up with the competition.
RMCR does offer the T and YSI options. Its all about knowing who makes the brackets. Plain and simple. Speed INC also sells the setups.

I know but Vortech should offer the upgrades with their kit, shown on their website. I'll bet sales would jump if they did this. The reason I went Vortech was because I saw most of the ATI guys having belt problems + I think it's a little blingier with the nice aluminum tubing. If I was a noob buying now though I would get the ATI. That is if I was choosing between the company offerings.True you can get the Vortech with the bigger head unit, but most new guys would think that what the companies and sponsors offer is all you can get.

Whereas, vortech, although the head unit is a little smaller right when the air is supercharged its already going through the tb. Powerwise it looks like the SQ is making more power with lower psi than the P1SC. Let me know if Im wrong and thanks to all for your replies.
This is why the thrid parties like RMCR and Speed INC work with vortech to make these options. So its the same as buying it from vortech. Because there companies are vortech dealers and the warranty vortech offers is the same as the thrid parties

The only "bad rap" that I know of for the Vortech is the price and tapping the pan. Getting oilflow from the engine allows the head unit to come up to temp faster and get a constant clean fresh oil supply since it goes thru the oil filter.
The initial cost of the ATI kits are cheaper but factor in the labor and parts and pain in the *** factor to make their substandard kit work like it should and you get the near Vortech's price which is an engineered kit that works like it should. You get what you pay for.
ATI will not let you buy headunits alone anymore. Vortech does.

Vortech got some bad rap very early on witht heir kit. A few problems were:
- They used a very small headunit which they pushed to its limit. This got people worrying.
- They introduced the SQ unit which was a disaster earlier on. The seals on the units were failing at alarming rates blowing oil everywhere into the intake. Was so bad that Vortech was offering free exchanges to the non-SQ headunit for a time.
- They did not design the unit for the SS cars. The fact you had to cut half the hood out to make it fit had SS owners running in the opposite direction fast.
- Later on ATI came on strong with the Air-to-Air argument, which had people arguing about dependability issues with the whole water cooled system.
- Also ATI came on strong with the self contained unit, so people now argued over the oil pan drilling and oiling system.
Basically they suffered earlier on with poor quality control and design, and late just by strong competition.

What I always find interesting is that I never can find folks running an F1 (not F1R) that make good numbers at the track. Sure the F1R is a good blower, but it's rated at 2000 cfm (compared to 1600 cfm for my YSi). I guess I am saying that I think the D1 works pretty well, but the F1 doesn't seem to show well.
I will say that I think ProCharger has a better website than Vortech.
But I think the Vortech T and YSi trim blowers are excellent.
